Omiya Hachiman Festival (Autumn Grand Festival)

The Ōmiya Hachiman Autumn Grand Festival is the largest and most important annual festival for the Ōmiya Hachimangū Shrine in Tokyo’s Suginami Ward.
This lively event is a cherished tradition for the local community and takes place over the three-day holiday weekend in mid-September.

The festival is filled with classic Japanese cultural elements, including energetic processions of mikoshi, or portable shrines.
A major highlight is the joint parade, where five different mikoshi are carried together, creating a powerful spectacle of sound and spirit.

The expansive shrine grounds and the main approach are lined with a great number of yatai, or festival stalls.
These stalls offer a wide variety of delicious street food, drinks, and traditional festival games for all ages to enjoy.

In addition to the processions, traditional performances such as sacred kagura dances are held on a stage within the shrine complex.

The festival is very popular with local families and has a wonderfully vibrant community atmosphere.
