Official Godzilla trading card game launches and reveals upcoming release schedule

A new trading card game based on 70 years of Godzilla history launched on Saturday, the 5th of July, through a partnership between Toho and Bushiroad.
Toho, the creator and owner of the Godzilla franchise, is handling the planning and sales of the game, while Bushiroad, a major company in the trading card game market, is managing distribution.
The “Godzilla Card Game” is designed to simulate the giant monster battles from the film series on the tabletop.

Its gameplay revolves around two distinct paths to victory: an “Invasion Victory,” achieved by successfully advancing your main Kaiju card into the opponent’s territory, or a “Repulsion Victory,” earned by defeating the opponent’s main Kaiju four times.
The initial product launch on the 5th of July included two pre-constructed Starter Decks and one Booster Pack.
The Starter Decks are complete, ready-to-play 60-card decks that also include a paper playmat and a manual, making them the ideal entry point for new players.

One starter deck is themed around the recent film Godzilla-1.0/Godzilla Minus One, while the other focuses on the Heisei era of films, spanning from The Return of Godzilla (1984) to Godzilla vs. Destoroyah (1995).

The first Booster Pack, titled “Godzilla VS Godzilla,” contains a variety of cards from across the franchise’s history for players to collect and customize their decks.

This set includes a number of special, rare cards, including 100 limited-edition cards for both the Japanese and English versions that feature a foil-stamped signature from Godzilla-1.0 director Takashi Yamazaki.

The game will also feature “Anger Cards” that use the original movie poster art from 30 different Godzilla films, which will be released across the first four booster sets.

Several purchase campaigns began with the launch, including a special promotional “Burning Godzilla Rampage” card for customers who purchase three booster boxes from participating retailers.

If you’re able to head to a Godzilla store in Tokyo or Osaka (Shibuya/Daiba or Umeda), purchasing 2 starter decks at the same time will get you an exclusive playmat, whilst purchasing a single box of boosters will get you an exclusive “Godzilla (1995)” promo card.

The 3 booster box purchase bonus will also apply in Godzilla stores.
To support the new game, a robust schedule of organized play events is planned for the coming weeks.
Starting from July 12th, 2025, local shop tournaments will kick off at participating stores across Japan, offering special prize cards.

Following that, a medium-scale official tournament series, the “Kessen! Godzi-Cup,” will be held in Tokyo on Sunday, the 27th of July, and in Osaka on Monday, the 11th of August.
The game’s first standalone major event, the “Godzilla Card Game Fest 2025 Summer,” is scheduled to take place on Sunday, the 31st of August at the Tokyo Ryutsu Center.
Looking ahead, the next product release has already been announced.
The second booster pack, “Great Monster War of Retaliation ‘G’,” which will feature characters from the animated series Chibi Godzilla’s Counterattack, is planned for release on Saturday, the 4th of October.

The Godzilla Card Game is now available from retailers across Japan, with starter decks priced at ¥1,980 and boosters sold separately at ¥440.
