New projection mapping exhibition lights up Osaka skies this winter
The theme for this years “NAKED CITY LIGHT FANTASIA” event, set to take place at Osaka’s Abeno Harukas Observatory, has been announced.
“NAKED Inc.” is a creative company founded in 1997 by Ryotaro Muramatsu with the philosophy of “Core Creative, Total Creation, and Borderless Creativity”.
In recent years, the company has launched a number of projection mapping exhibitions, including the “NAKED CITY LIGHT FANTASIA” event which has been running since 2015 at the Abeno Harukas Observatory, Harukas 300.
Held for a limited time each year with a new theme and performance, this innovative projection mapping show merges real-world night views with luminous art.
This year’s theme is “Go Around OSAKA”, intended to signify that it will take visitors on a tour of the entire city.
Taking advantage of Harukas 300’s 360-degree panoramic view, famous Osaka landmarks appear as projection mappings in their respective directions.
Osaka Castle and landmarks from the Umeda area are set to appear on the north-facing windows of the observatory, while the world heritage site, Daisen Kofun (Emperor Nintoku’s Tomb), is projected on the south-facing windows alongside other notable Osaka landmarks.
With the Osaka-Kansai Expo approaching next year and set to draw global attention to the city, this artistic guide aims to introduce Osaka’s famous spots to the increasing number of inbound tourists in a fun and engaging way.
The “NAKED CITY LIGHT FANTASIA” event is set to run from 13th November 2024 to 31st March 2025 on the 60th floor of Harukas 300, with the projection mapping being available to anyone purchasing standard admission to the observation deck.
Admission will cost 2,000 yen for adults (18 and over), 1,200 yen for junior and high school students (ages 12-18), 700 yen for elementary school students (ages 6-11) and 500 yen for children (ages 4+).
