New Godzilla store to feature giant "Monster Capsule" machine

A 2.4-meter-tall “Monster Capsule” machine will be installed at the upcoming “Godzilla Store Daiba” store in Tokyo.

Godzilla Store Daiba will be the fourth official Godzilla store in Japan and will be the world’s largest Godzilla store in terms of floor space.

The “Monster Capsule” machines have previously been installed in shopping malls, sports arenas, and event spaces across Japan and have become known for their imposing height, with the smallest machine standing 2m tall and the largest at 3m tall.

The machine installed at Godzilla Store Daiba will be 2.4m tall and is intended to serve as a prominent attraction, complementing the store’s extensive collection of Godzilla-themed products and exhibits.

The installation of the “Monster Capsule” machine also coincides with the 70th anniversary of the release of the original “Godzilla” film in 1954.

This anniversary year has seen a resurgence in Godzilla’s global popularity, fueled by the critical and commercial success of the film “Godzilla Minus One” and the upcoming release of “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire”.

The “Monster Capsule” will offer a selection of exclusive, limited-edition “Chinzaju” figures in unique color variations.

Each capsule is priced at 3,300 yen (approx. $21.98 USD / £17.30 GBP) and contains one of four collectible figures.

The possible figures include:

“Godzilla-1.0 – Godzilla the Throne (2023)” in a Godzilla Store Daiba exclusive clear version.
“Toho Kaiju Series: Hedorah (2004)” in a Godzilla Store Daiba exclusive red clear version.
“Toho Kaiju Series: Enzaju King Caesar (1974)” in a Godzilla Store Daiba exclusive clear version.
“Toho Monster Series: Mechagodzilla (1974)” in a Godzilla Store Daiba exclusive clear version.

Beyond the “Monster Capsule” machine, Godzilla Store Daiba will feature a range of attractions and merchandise based on the Godzilla series. These will include:

A 2-meter tall statue of Godzilla (2016) displayed at the store’s entrance.
A photo spot featuring a mural showcasing a compilation of Godzilla iterations from across the franchise.
A photo spot with figures and plush toys produced under the supervision of Toho Eizo Bijutsu.
Exclusive merchandise available only at the Godzilla Store Daiba.

Godzilla Store Daiba is due to open on Friday, March 14, 2025, within the Odaiba DiverCity Tokyo Plaza mall.
