New Evangelion Watch Collab Collection Merges Anime Aesthetics with Traditional Japanese Techniques

Character-focused lifestyle brand GARRACK has officially unveiled a new collaboration with Evangelion, creating a range of official watches based on the legendary anime series.
The “Evangelion S-MEISTER Mechanical Watch” collection brilliantly fuses iconic mecha designs with the historic Japanese traditional craft known as Raden.

Raden is a meticulous decorative technique that involves polishing the iridescent inner layer of abalone and other shells to an extreme thinness before applying them to a lacquer base.

For this specialized collection, GARRACK partnered with Tsuyoshi Musashigawa, the fourth-generation artisan of the renowned Musashigawa Koubou workshop in Takaoka City.

This specific region has passed down the “Aogai-nuri” lacquerware technique for centuries, and Musashigawa utilizes this inherited knowledge to handcraft each individual dial.

The manufacturing process requires an immense level of precision from the seasoned artisan.

Natural shells are carefully polished down to just 0.1 millimeters thick, colored from the back of the iridescent surface, and precisely cut to match the intricate visual motifs of the beloved anime.
These delicate pieces are then attached by hand using traditional animal glue over a base layer of Urushi lacquer, before receiving a final protective coating.

Because the materials are completely natural and applied manually, every single dial reflects light differently, ensuring that no two watches are exactly alike.
This elegant lineup features three distinct mechanical timepieces, each powered by a highly reliable, automatic Miyota movement crafted entirely in Japan.

The timepieces feature 41mm stainless steel cases, calf leather belts, and mineral glass, alongside an A.T. Field-inspired index design and a transparent case back printed with the iconic NERV logo.
