A new, large-format photography book has been announced, titled “PlayStation: The First 30 Years.”

The new book is an officially licensed publication that is being released to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the global launch of the first PlayStation console, which took place this month.

The book is described as the “definitive visual chronicle” of the brand’s world-changing hardware, and it has been produced in direct collaboration with PlayStation, with unprecedented access to the company’s archives.

Across its 400 large-format pages, the book showcases a collection of never-before-seen research and development prototypes, concept sketches, and development models.

The stunning new visuals provide a rare glimpse into the evolution of the iconic consoles and controllers, from the original PlayStation through to the PlayStation 5.

The book also features new, exclusive insights from the legendary engineers and designers who shaped PlayStation’s identity, including Ken Kutaragi, Teiyu Goto, and Yujin Morisawa.

The book is available for pre-order in two different editions.

  • Standard Edition: $120 USD/£95 GBP

This version features an embossed and debossed case design with foil typography detailing.

  • Deluxe Edition: $310 USD/£245 GBP

This is a premium version, limited to 1,994 copies, which comes in a foil-stamped clamshell presentation box and includes an exclusive, signed photographic print.

The new book is an exclusive release from the publisher Read-Only Memory.
