Midoriya’s Darkest My Hero Academia Moment Inspires New Dark Deku S.H. Figuarts Figure
TAMASHII NATIONS has officially opened pre-orders for a new S.H.Figuarts action figure based on Izuku Midoriya’s Dark Deku form from one of My Hero Academia’s most intense story arcs.
My Hero Academia follows Midoriya’s journey from a Quirkless student to the successor of One For All, placing him at the center of the escalating conflict between Japan’s heroes and the villains led by Tomura Shigaraki.
The Dark Deku identity emerges after the Paranormal Liberation War, when Midoriya leaves U.A. High School in order to protect his classmates and prevent Shigaraki and All For One from tracking him back to those he cares about.
This period sees Midoriya operating alone while constantly pushing his body and Quirks to their limits, resulting in a worn-down appearance that reflects both his determination and the emotional weight of his mission.
The S.H.Figuarts Dark Deku figure stands approximately 14 cm tall and is built on the 2024 S.H.Figuarts Izuku Midoriya body, enhanced with a large number of newly sculpted parts to reflect this specific version of the character.
Updated hip joints allow for his signature low, forward-leaning stance, while the dark green, heavily damaged costume and weathered cape capture the more aggressive and unrefined look seen during his solo operations.
Two masked face parts are included along with interchangeable bangs that allow collectors to display Midoriya without his mask.
The set also includes a serious expression and a tear-streaked face sculpt inspired by his emotional reaction to Ochaco Uraraka’s attempt to reach him during a key moment in the arc.
Newly designed Blackwhip effect parts recreate his frequent use of Daigoro Banjo’s Quirk and are distinct from those included with the S.H.Figuarts Overlay Deku release.
Three pairs of interchangeable hands are also included, allowing for a wide range of dynamic action poses as well as more restrained, character-driven displays.
The S.H.Figuarts Dark Deku figure is priced at ¥12,100 (approx. $74 USD / £56 GBP), with pre-orders opening via hobby goods retailers such as HobbyLink Japan on July 28, though the figure is available to pre-order via some US-based retailers from July 26.
The figure is scheduled for release in January 2027 in Japan, while international and US retailers are currently listing a February 2027 release window at the earliest.
