“METAL BUILD” Evangelion figures get updated re-release for series’ 30th anniversary
Three new special-edition products are being released in the “METAL BUILD Evangelion” series to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the iconic anime franchise.
The METAL BUILD line from Bandai Spirits is a series of high-end, collectible action figures known for its extensive use of die-cast metal parts, intricate mechanical detail, and a high degree of articulation.
The Evangelion series within this line offers original, stylized reinterpretations of the famous biomechanical mecha from the mind of creator Hideaki Anno.
The new 30th-anniversary products include two special-edition figure sets, which are both re-releases with new parts, and a separate accessory pack.
The first is the “METAL BUILD Evangelion Unit-02 30th with the spear of Cassius.”
This set includes the main Unit-02 figure, which is the same as the 2019 release, but now comes bundled with a newly sculpted, approximately 400mm long replica of the Spear of Cassius.
The spear is rendered with a combination of clear parts and metallic paint. The set also includes a special 30th-anniversary display base.
The second figure set is the “METAL BUILD Evangelion Unit-00/Unit-00 (Kai) 30th with the spear of Longinus.”
This set features the main Unit-00 figure from the figure’s 2022 release and now includes a newly sculpted, approximately 380mm long replica of the Spear of Longinus, also created with clear parts and metallic paint, along with an anniversary base.
These two new and updated figures will join a renewal version of EVA Unit-01, which recently became available to pre-order.
The third and final new product is the “METAL BUILD Evangelion Three Spears Set 30th with the spear Another color.”
This is an accessory pack that contains all three of the iconic spears from the series: the Spear of Gaius, the Spear of Cassius, and the Spear of Longinus.
The spears in this set feature a new, “another color” paint scheme with a more solid feel compared to the versions included with the figures.
The set also includes a variety of interchangeable hand parts to allow all three of the previously released Evangelion units to wield the different spears.
The full product lineup and prices are as follows:
- METAL BUILD Evangelion Unit-02 30th with the spear of Cassius: 35,200 yen (approx. $238 USD / £177 GBP – Release scheduled for May 2026)
- METAL BUILD Evangelion Unit-00/Unit-00 (Kai) 30th with the spear of Longinus: 35,200 yen (approx. $238 USD / £177 GBP) – Release scheduled for June 2026
- METAL BUILD Evangelion Three Spears Set 30th with the spear Another color: 11,000 yen (approx. $74.52 USD / £55.33 GBP) – Release scheduled for May 2026
Pre-orders are now open via Premium Bandai, however as these are limited-run items, pre-orders may close early if the production limit is reached.
