McDonald’s Japan launches annual Tomica Happy Meal collaboration

McDonald’s Japan has announced the return of its hugely popular “Tomica” Happy Meal, which sees a miniature toy car from the Tomica die-cast vehicle series included with a children’s meal.
The promotional campaign, which has become an annual event for McDonald’s Japan, will run for approximately five weeks from Friday, April 11th, 2025.
The “Tomica” Happy Meal draws attention from both children and adult collectors.

This year’s “Tomica” Happy Meal theme revolves around “working cars” showcasing a variety of vehicles used in various professional capacities.
The toy cars will be offered across three different sales periods.
The first series, available from Friday, April 11th, to Thursday, April 24th, will include four different toy models.
Nissan GT-R Patrol Car

This Tomica is a reproduction of the Tochigi Prefectural Police patrol car based on the Nissan GT-R.
It features a gimmick that makes it look like the emergency lights are shining when you push it back and forth with your hand.
Also, if you shine a light from a smartphone or flashlight from underneath it, it looks like the front lights are on.
Toyota Himedic Ambulance

This Tomica is modeled after the “Himedic Ambulance”, a specially modified version of Toyota’s Hiace minivan.
This model is a reproduction of the third generation model that is still in use throughout Japan.
The back door opens, allowing you to see inside the vehicle.
If you shine a light from your smartphone or a flashlight from underneath, it will look like the emergency lights are on.
Isuzu Elf Sign Truck

This Tomica model is a reproduction of a sign vehicle based on the Isuzu Elf.
A sign vehicle is a vehicle that uses a sign device attached to the loading platform to inform passing vehicles of lane restrictions during road construction, recovery work after an accident, etc.
The sign on the rear of this toy shows different images such as “Under Construction” and “Traffic Jammed” depending on the angle you view it from.
When you shine a light from a smartphone or flashlight underneath the car, the yellow headlights appear to be lit.
Mosasaurus Transport Vehicle

This is a unique transport vehicle with an interesting concept as the purple and blue colored truck features a dinosaur on top.
When you push it back and forth with your hand, the lower jaw of the Mosasaurus moves up and down.
When you shine a light from a smartphone or flashlight from underneath, the light blue clear parts of the loading platform appear to light up.
The second series, running from Friday, April 25th, to Thursday, May 8th, will introduce five new models, one of which will be a “secret” toy, adding an element of surprise for customers.
Toyota GR Supra Safety Car

The Toyota GR Supra Safety Car features a McDonald’s themed design, with the TOYOTA GAZOO Racing and McDonald’s logos on the roof, front window, and bonnet.
Morita MVF 13m boom Multipurpose Fire Pump Vehicle

This Tomica model is a reproduction of a multipurpose fire pump truck with a boom made by Morita.
MVF stands for MORITA VARIOUS FIGHTER, and indicates that this vehicle can perform multiple roles, including firefighting, rescue, and storing equipment and materials.
The boom can be lifted, extended, and rotated.
Hitachi Construction Machinery Wheel Loader ZW220

This Tomica model is a reproduction of the Hitachi Construction Machinery Wheel Loader ZW220, which is used at construction sites and for snow removal work.
The shovel installed at the front of the vehicle can be moved up and down and the driver’s compartment is made of clear material so you can see inside.
BK117 D-2 Helicopter

This is the first time a helicopter has appeared as a “Tomica” Happy Meal toy.
The BK117 D-2 helicopter was jointly developed by Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Germany’s MBB (now AHD = Airbus Helicopters Germany) and is used for police, firefighting, news reporting, and even as a medical helicopter.
The Tomica version allows you to spin the rotor by hand.
Secret Toy

The second sales period also includes a “secret toy” that McDonald’s have not yet revealed.
All toys included in the second period include background parts that can be connected together.

The third and final sales period, beginning on Friday, May 9th and continuing until the toys are sold out, will encompass all nine models featured in the first and second series.
As with previous iterations, customers ordering a Happy Meal during any of these periods will receive one of the available toys at random, creating an element of chance and excitement.
The “Tomica x McDonald’s Japan” collab toys are subject to stock availability, and the promotion will conclude once all toys have been distributed.
In addition to the “Tomica” Happy Meal, McDonald’s Japan has also announced a special collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation, featuring a series of promotional campaigns and events.
One of the highlights of this collaboration is a giveaway campaign, offering 90 lucky winners the opportunity to participate in an exclusive “real-life work experience” event at Fuji Speedway, located in Shizuoka Prefecture, during the Golden Week holiday period.

Participants in this event will have the unique opportunity to test drive a McDonald’s-branded “Toyota GR Supra Safety Car”, take a guided tour of the Fuji Speedway circuit, witness the excitement of the FORMULA DRIFT JAPAN competition and participate in a “McAdventure” activity “working” in a McDonald’s restaurant.
From Friday, April 25th, to Sunday, May 11th, select McDonald’s restaurants across Japan will host collaboration events featuring displays of an actual Toyota GR Supra Safety Car with an original McDonald’s design.

These events will also showcase Tomica cars from past Happy Meal promotions:
