Live-action SAKAMOTO DAYS movie to star Ren Meguro of Snow Man
More details have been officially announced for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of the popular manga series, SAKAMOTO DAYS.
Ren Meguro, a member of the popular idol group Snow Man, has been confirmed as starring in the lead role of the protagonist, Taro Sakamoto.
The movie will be written and directed by the acclaimed comedy director Yuichi Fukuda, who is famous for his work on the live-action Gintama films and From Today, It’s My Turn!!.
SAKAMOTO DAYS, created by Yuto Suzuki, is a hit action-comedy series that follows the story of a legendary, retired hitman who is now living a peaceful life as an overweight convenience store owner with his family.
When he enters “serious mode,” he burns a massive amount of calories and transforms into his original, slim, and powerful form.
A new teaser visual has been released, which shows the duality of the character’s two different forms, and a 30-second teaser trailer has also been revealed.
In a comment, Ren Meguro stated that he was a fan of the original manga and was honored to receive the role.
“The character I’m playing, Taro Sakamoto, was once feared as a legendary hitman, but now he’s a gentle father who prioritizes his family. I think that gap is his greatest charm and makes him a really cool character,” he said.
He also added, “This was the first time I’ve challenged myself with this much action, and I feel like I’ve discovered a new side of myself and a confidence I didn’t have before. It even made me want to aim to become an action star who is second to none! (laughs).”
The director, Yuichi Fukuda, also expressed his immense excitement for the project and his confidence in the finished film.
He stated, “The editing is already finished, and even without the CG and the music, we’re already saying that we could release it in theaters as is. That’s how insanely funny a movie it has become.”
The live-action SAKAMOTO DAYS movie is scheduled to be released during the “Golden Week” holiday in 2026.
