Licca-chan dolls now available at McDonald’s Japan as Happy Meal toys

McDonald’s Japan has announced the launch of a limited-time “Licca-chan” Happy Meal in Japan.

This promotion aims to attract fans of the popular Japanese fashion doll Licca-chan, by offering a range of customizable doll-themed toys.

The “Licca-chan” Happy Meal will launch on the 11th of April and features a collection of toys designed to allow children to engage in creative play through hair styling and dress-up activities.

It arrives at McDonald’s restaurants at the same time as the company’s annual “Tomica” Happy Meal promotion, which means that customers can choose to get either a Tomica model car toy or a Licca-chan doll with their meal.

The “Licca-chan” Happy line-up comprises nine dolls, including one “secret” doll.

Each Happy Meal purchased during the promotional period will include one randomly selected “Licca-chan” doll.

McDonald’s have split the available toys into two sets, with the first set released between April 11th and April 24th due to include the following dolls:

Dream Hair Arrangement! Dressy Jewel Licca-chan

Dream Hair Arrangement! Emerald Butterfly Licca-chan

Dream Hair Arrangement! Musical Melody Licca-chan

Dream Hair Arrangement! Dreamy Night Licca-chan

The second set will be available between April 25th and May 8th and will include the following dolls:

Dress change! Starlight Princess Licca-chan

Dress change! Diamond Princess Licca-chan

Dress Change! Dreamland Princess Licca-chan

Dress change! Neko Neko Princess Licca-chan

Secret Toy

Licca-chan was originally introduced by Takara Tomy (formerly Takara) in 1967 and is a long-standing and beloved fashion doll in Japan, comparable in popularity to Barbie in Western markets.

The doll has remained a cultural icon for generations of Japanese children, evolving over time to reflect contemporary fashion trends and societal changes.

The character of Licca-chan is portrayed as an 11-year-old elementary school student, adding a relatable aspect for young children.

The franchise has expanded beyond dolls to include anime series, manga, video games, and a vast array of related merchandise.

The “Licca-chan” Happy Meal toys are designed to encourage imaginative play, allowing children to experiment with different hairstyles and outfits for their Licca-chan dolls.

This emphasis on creative expression aligns with the appeal of the Licca-chan brand, which has consistently promoted imaginative role-playing and fashion exploration.

McDonald’s Japan often collaborates with popular children’s franchises to create engaging Happy Meal promotions, capitalizing on the appeal of well-known characters to attract families.

The “Licca-chan” Happy Meal is expected to be a popular offering, particularly among young girls who are familiar with the doll.
