Lawson's "Egg Sando" just got a huge upgrade

Despite rising prices for many food items across Japan, convenience store chain Lawson is set to reduce the price of some of its most popular items, whilst simultaneously increasing their size.

Well documented rises in the price of staple ingredients, such as rice and cabbage, have led to food prices increasing in Japan over the last year.

The changes in ingredient prices have led most restaurant and convenience store chains to increase prices across many products, leading to consumers feeling the pinch on their wallet.

An announcement made by Lawson, one of Japan’s top convenience store chains, will come as welcome relief for many, as it revealed that some products will buck the trend of increasing prices and actually see an imminent price decrease.

The news gets even better for Lawson regulars, as the size of some items, including one coveted by locals and tourists alike, will actually increase at the same time – offering even more value for your yen.

Lawson’s has worked hard to reduce procurement costs for a number of items, most notably eggs, which will lead to a transformation for one of their most popular products.

The iconic “Egg Salad Sandwich” will reduce in price whilst increasing in size – a move which is sure to be popular with many Japanese sandwich aficionados.

Previously priced at 300 yen, the “Egg Salad Sandwich” will now be priced at 279 yen, and will contain more delicious fluffy egg than ever before.

Equally, Lawson’s “Ham and Egg Box” will now be available for 354 yen, reflecting an 11 yen decrease from its former price.

If you’re partial to a Japanese convenience store egg sandwich, you’ll be pleased to hear that Lawson’s “Egg Salad Sandwich” will now contain around 20% more egg salad than before – a change that will also affect the “Ham and Egg Box”, which contains a mix of both egg salad and ham sandwiches.

The good news doesn’t stop there though – the recipe for the egg salad has been adjusted and is said by Lawson to be better than ever before, with a less sour taste profile and a more pronounced egg flavor.

In the final change to both sandwich items, Lawson has also tweaked their bread dough formula, making it softer and more palatable.

The enhanced “Egg Sandwich” and “Ham and Egg Box” products will be available for purchase at all Lawson stores nationwide from the 22nd of April 2025, with the exception of a limited number of specific locations.
