Kichijoji Fall Festival

The Kichijōji Fall Festival is the grand annual festival for the Musashino Hachimangu Shrine.
It is one of the most exciting and anticipated events in the popular Kichijōji neighborhood of West Tokyo.

The festival takes place over the second weekend of September each year.
Its main highlight is the powerful and energetic procession of eleven different mikoshi, or portable shrines.

Each mikoshi represents a different local neighborhood association or shopping street.
The shrines are paraded vigorously through the streets around Kichijōji Station, including the famous Sun Road shopping arcade.

The air is filled with the sound of chanting, whistles, and traditional music, creating an incredibly lively atmosphere.

On Sunday afternoon, all eleven mikoshi gather together at the Musashino Hachimangu Shrine for a joint ceremony, which is a major spectacle.

The event is very popular and draws large, dense crowds throughout the weekend.
Visitors can also enjoy a selection of traditional festival stalls, including crafts, food and drinks.
