Japan’s new ‘Doctors only’ bodybuilding contest will set pulses racing

A new bodybuilding contest in Japan will only allow competitors to take part if they have one very specific qualification.
Tokyo’s ADC System Co. has announced the “Kinniku Ikyokusai”, or “Physician Physique Festival” – a bodybuilding competition exclusively for medical professionals.

This groundbreaking competition aims to empower healthcare workers to become champions of fitness culture, using their own dedication to health to inspire the wider community.
By fostering a fitness-focused mindset among medical professionals and students, the festival hopes to elevate health awareness within the medical field and ultimately contribute to higher standards of patient care.

The event will champion a more sustainable and practical approach to fitness by including “functional fitness” categories that assess physical capabilities beyond aesthetics, alongside traditional bodybuilding and transformation-focused “diet” divisions.
The driving force behind the “Physician Physique Festival” is the “Kinniku Ikyoku”, or “Muscle Medical Office”, Japan’s first physician-led organization comprised solely of doctors with bodybuilding competition experience.

Currently boasting 40 members nationwide and an impressive combined social media following of over 250,000, this group of medically trained and physically honed individuals actively promotes health and fitness beyond the confines of traditional medical practice.

The festival’s inception stems from the belief that when doctors themselves prioritize and advocate for healthy lifestyles, it not only enhances the quality of care they provide but also positively influences the health consciousness of society as a whole.
“Kinniku Ikyokusai” is designed to showcase how busy healthcare professionals can integrate enjoyable and sustainable fitness practices into their lives, offering a new vision for fitness goals that extends beyond mere physique to encompass overall health, lifestyle habits, and improved physical function.
The event is scheduled to take place on Sunday, August 24th, 2025, at the Nihonbashi Social Education Hall in Tokyo.
