Japan is getting new Super Mario themed Shinkansen bullet trains from November 2025

A massive, region-wide collaboration has been announced between Nintendo’s Super Mario and the JR Kyushu railway company.
The new campaign, titled “Super Mario x JR Kyushu ~Let’s GO KYUSHU!~,” will be a long-term event designed to promote tourism across the island of Kyushu.

The event will feature Super Mario-themed Shinkansen bullet trains, fully decorated train stations, pop-up shops, and a six-city festival tour.

The highlight of the collaboration is the “Super Mario Trains,” which will see four different train and bus lines wrapped in special Super Mario designs:
- 885 Series Train: (Running on the Sonic, Kirameki, Relay Kamome, and Midori lines)

This train will be decorated to look like a “Super Mario level.”

- Nishi Kyushu Shinkansen Kamome (N700S series)

This bullet train will feature a “full Mario design” wrap.

- Kyushu Shinkansen Tsubame (800 series)

This bullet train will feature a design of “Mario and his friends all gathered together.”

- BRT Hikoboshi Line

This bus line will feature three different colored designs.
The themed trains will begin rolling out on November 29th.
In addition to the trains, 22 different stations across Kyushu will be transformed into “Super Mario Stations” with special decorations.

Seven of these stations (Hakata, Kokura, Saga, Nagasaki, Oita, Kumamoto, and Kagoshima Central) will also feature special photo panels for commemorative pictures.

A “Super Mario Festa in Kyushu” will also be held, an in-person, weekend event that will tour six major station plazas, starting with Oita Station on November 29th.

These events will feature activities like a “battle with Bowser,” game demos, local food, and photo spots.
To accompany the festivals, “Super Mario x JR Kyushu” Pop-Up Shops will open in each city’s AMU PLAZA shopping center, selling exclusive collaboration goods as well as official Nintendo merchandise from Nintendo’s Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto stores.

This is in addition to the grand opening of Japan’s fourth official “Nintendo FUKUOKA” store, which will open in AMU PLAZA Hakata on November 14th.

Finally, two different app-based campaigns will be held.
The official “JR Kyushu” app will host a massive digital stamp rally with 100 different locations.

The “My Nintendo” app will feature a “GPS Check-in” campaign, where visitors who check in at the seven major stations can receive a special, exclusive wallpaper.

The “Super Mario x JR Kyushu ~Let’s GO KYUSHU!~” collaboration is scheduled to begin on Saturday, the 29th of November, 2025, and will run until Tuesday, the 30th of June, 2026.
