Initial D and Don Quijote team up for second exclusive merch collab this year

Fans of Shuichi Shigeno’s iconic series “Initial D” will soon be able to find a range of exclusive new merchandise at Don Quijote.
Don Quijote is one of Japan’s largest discount store chains, and this new collaboration will see the release of a range of exclusive “Initial D” merchandise including t-shirts, towels and car magnets.
This follows a collaboration earlier this year that saw Don Quijote sell “Initial D” themed car accessories.

“Initial D” first began its serialization in 1995 in Kodansha’s Weekly Young Magazine and quickly gained a massive following for its intense racing sequences, detailed depictions of cars and driving techniques, and its engaging characters.
The series follows Takumi Fujiwara, an unassuming tofu delivery boy who possesses exceptional, unknowingly honed driving skills on the winding mountain roads of his hometown.

As he gets drawn into the world of underground racing, Takumi’s talent behind the wheel of his father’s aging Toyota AE86 Trueno earns him both rivals and respect.
The series’ popularity further exploded with its anime adaptation, featuring a memorable Eurobeat soundtrack, which secured its enduring impact on car culture worldwide.
This latest “Initial D x Don Quijote” collaboration will feature a lineup of goods based on iconic images and memorable quotes from the series.

Fans can expect to find items emblazoned with legendary lines such as “Spin it until it spins 11,000 times!” (a reference to the high-revving engine of Takumi’s AE86) and the enigmatic “Out of sight” (a phrase often associated with Takumi’s surprising speed and skill).
In addition to famous quotes, the merchandise will also prominently feature recognizable logos from the “Initial D” universe, including the classic “Fujiwara Tofu Shop” logo and the emblem of the “Red Suns” racing team, led by the skilled Ryosuke Takahashi.

Multiple t-shirts are available and each one will come with a special bonus – an exclusive acrylic keychain designed like the driver’s license of popular characters from the series.

Don Quijote stores, affectionately nicknamed “Donki”, are known for their vast and eclectic selection of goods, ranging from electronics and cosmetics to snacks and novelty items.
Their nationwide presence in Japan makes this collaboration highly accessible for “Initial D” fans across the country.
The partnership with such a popular retail chain shows the enduring appeal and cultural significance of “Initial D”, nearly three decades after its initial release, and follows collaborations between Don Quijote and other popular series such as Sanrio, Danganronpa, Dragon Ball and Final Fantasy.
The new “Initial D” items will be available at select Don Quijote stores across Japan from May 17th, 2025.
A list of participating stores can be found on the official collaboration website.
