High-end metal action figure of Gundam GQuuuuuuX’s “GFreD” announced

The development of a high-end action figure based on the GFreD from Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX has been announced.
The “METAL ROBOT Spirit <SIDE MS> GFreD” is based on the brand new Gundam, which was revealed earlier this year.

The GFreD made its shocking appearance in episode 8 of the Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX anime on May 27th, and this marks the first dedicated action figure of the new mobile suit to be announced.
For fans who prefer to build their own action figures, a HG Gunpla kit of the GFreD has also been announced and will be released in August 2025.

BANDAI SPIRITS’ “METAL ROBOT Spirits” line is a premium action figure series known for its superb level of detail, superior articulation, and use of die-cast metal parts instead of plastic.
This line typically caters to high-end collectors who appreciate high-quality representations of their favorite mecha.
The Mobile Suit Gundam franchise is a long standing pillar of Japanese anime and Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX is the latest series to be broadcast.

The series is produced in part by Khara, the acclaimed animation studio responsible for the Rebuild of Evangelion films.
Khara includes many staff who worked on many classic Gainax productions, including the original Neon Genesis Evangelion series and FLCL, and who are also involved in GQuuuuuuX.

This background has led to discussion among fans regarding potential stylistic or thematic influences from the Evangelion series.
The recent reveal of the GFreD in the anime has intensified these discussions.

While previous statements from staff working on Mobile Suit Gundam GQuuuuuuX have downplayed any direct inspiration between the series and Neon Genesis Evangelion, the GFreD itself bears a remarkable similarity to Evangelion Unit-01 particularly its slender form, purple and green color scheme, and distinct head design.

The decision to lead with a “METAL ROBOT Spirits” figure for GFreD, a line known for its faithful and high-quality renditions, suggests BANDAI SPIRITS is confident in the design’s appeal.
Further details regarding the release date, pricing, and specific features of the “METAL ROBOT Spirit <SIDE MS> GFreD” are expected to be released in due course.
