Hatsune Miku’s Original Design Returns for New Model Kit from Good Smile Company
Good Smile Company and Max Factory have officially revealed a brand-new PLAMATEA model kit featuring Hatsune Miku, recreating the virtual singer’s iconic original design rather than one of her many themed variants.
Hatsune Miku debuted in 2007 as the mascot for Crypton’s Vocaloid voice synthesis software before becoming one of the world’s most recognizable virtual singers, inspiring countless songs, concerts, games and collaborations while remaining a global icon of digital music culture.
The new “PLAMATEA Hatsune Miku” becomes the fourth Hatsune Miku kit in the PLAMATEA lineup and the first in the series to faithfully recreate her classic default appearance with an entirely new sculpt rather than a themed design.
PLAMATEA is a collaborative plastic model kit series developed by Good Smile Company and Max Factory that combines detailed character sculpting with the advanced articulation refined through the figma action figure line whilst still making the kits accessible to both newcomers and experienced model builders.
Standing approximately 15 cm tall, the snap-fit model kit uses multi-colored runners, pre-painted parts and a small selection of color-correcting stickers to recreate Miku’s signature appearance without requiring extensive painting, while waterslide decals are included to add the iconic “01” marking to her left arm.
The completed model features flexible articulation throughout the body, allowing Miku to be posed singing, dancing or performing alongside the included microphone, interchangeable hands and a poseable necktie.
Builders will also receive a pre-painted smiling face, together with additional face plates that can be customized using waterslide decals to create an alternate smiling expression, an open-mouth expression and an adorable chibi face.
The “PLAMATEA Hatsune Miku” model kit is priced at ¥6,300 (approx. $43 USD / £32 GBP) and will be available through the Good Smile Online Shop and reputable hobby goods retailers such as HobbyLink Japan.
The model kit is currently scheduled for release in January 2027.
