Haruhi Suzumiya 20th Anniversary Exhibition Officially Announced for August 2026

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya is officially celebrating the 20th anniversary of its TV anime with a brand-new exhibition that will immerse fans in the unforgettable world of the SOS Brigade.
Originally based on Nagaru Tanigawa’s bestselling light novel series, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya became one of the defining anime of the 2000s thanks to its unique blend of science fiction, comedy and mystery, while helping shape modern anime fandom both in Japan and around the world.

Titled “SOS Exhibition – The Exhibition of Haruhi Suzumiya That Greatly Excited the World,” the event will invite visitors to revisit the series through rare production materials, interactive displays and newly created exclusive merchandise.
The exhibition takes its name from the SOS Brigade, the club founded by Haruhi Suzumiya to search for aliens, time travelers, espers and other mysterious phenomena, which became one of the series’ most recognizable elements.

A newly illustrated promotional visual created by original light novel illustrator Noizi Ito was also unveiled alongside the announcement.

Visitors will be able to explore two main exhibition areas throughout the event.
The first section, titled “The Recollections of Haruhi Suzumiya,” will look back at the story through valuable production materials, including settings and a recreated photo spot based on the SOS Brigade clubroom.

The second section, “The Haruhi Suzumiya Phenomenon,” will examine the lasting influence the franchise has had on modern anime, pop culture and entertainment.

Every visitor will receive special admission bonuses that change depending on when they attend, with SNS-style clear cards available in six designs during the first half of the event from August 10 through August 20 and Tanabata wish-strip bookmarks available in ten designs during the second half from August 21 through August 30.
Designs for the admission bonuses are set to be revealed closer to the start of the exhibition.
Fans purchasing a limited merchandise exchange ticket alongside admission will also be able to receive a replica of Haruhi’s iconic SOS Brigade armband, one of the anime’s most recognizable accessories.

A dedicated merchandise area will also offer exclusive products featuring the newly commissioned artwork, alongside an official exhibition guidebook containing highlights from the displays.
Additional purchase bonuses will be available to fans spending a specified amount on the day.

Though designs are yet to be revealed, these will include photo-gray style collectible cards, with twelve designs themed around The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya available during the first half from August 10 through August 20 and twelve designs themed around The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya available during the second half from August 21 through August 30.
The “SOS Exhibition – The Exhibition of Haruhi Suzumiya That Greatly Excited the World” will take place at Exhibition Hall D inside Sunshine City, Ikebukuro, Tokyo, from August 10 through August 30, 2026.

Timed entry tickets and weekday admission tickets are each priced at ¥2,500 (approx. $17 USD / £13 GBP), while the limited goods exchange ticket is priced at ¥2,000 (approx. $14 USD / £10 GBP).
Ticket sales are set to commence through the official website starting July 8, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. (JST).
