Gundam’s Best Shin Musha Gundam Gunpla Kit Returns for Official US Re-Release
Image by Charlotte DavisThe exclusive MG 1/100 Shin Musha Gundam Sengoku no Jin Black Robe Large Armor is getting another US release, bringing back the darker take on one of the most elaborate samurai-inspired Master Grade kits.
Shin Musha Gundam originally appeared in the Gundam Musou video game series, better known internationally as Dynasty Warriors: Gundam, with its design combining the familiar Gundam silhouette with layers of traditional Japanese armor and an extensive samurai-inspired arsenal.
The Black Robe Large Armor version completely changes the presentation of the Sengoku no Jin kit by switching its large exterior armor to a predominantly black color scheme, accompanied by metallic silver sections and striking red-plated details.
Its weapons have also been recolored to match the darker appearance of the mobile suit, helping the entire set feel like a coordinated special edition rather than a simple armor color swap.
The kit comes heavily armed with the Nichirinmaru katana and sheath, Denkoumaru naginata, Sankoumaru spear, and Tanegashima gun, giving builders a strong selection of melee and ranged options for changing up the finished display.
Each of the main weapons can also be incorporated into the larger Sengoku no Jin presentation base, with dedicated stands and holders included to display the arsenal around Shin Musha Gundam rather than leaving unused equipment to one side.
One of the biggest differences between this release and a conventional Master Grade is the amount of display equipment included alongside the Gundam itself.
A large folding screen features newly illustrated artwork by Naochika Morishita depicting a dragon and phoenix, with silver foil detailing giving the backdrop a more decorative finish that complements the black, red, and metallic armor.
The set also includes a wooden-plaque-style nameplate and dedicated display base, allowing the completed kit and its weapons to be arranged in a presentation inspired by traditional Japanese samurai doll displays.
Another key feature is the included Japanese-style sticker sheet, which uses a textured finish designed to resemble traditional washi paper and adds red spider lily patterns across selected sections of the armor.
These details give builders the option of keeping the darker armor relatively clean or leaning further into the Japanese theme by adding the decorative markings across the finished model.
Underneath the new colors, the Master Grade construction provides enough articulation for sword-drawing poses, kneeling stances, and wider weapon displays despite the amount of armor surrounding the body.
The combination of the black armor, red plating, metallic details, four-piece weapon set, decorative stickers, and full Sengoku no Jin display setup makes this one of the more complete Shin Musha Gundam packages available for collectors who want something designed to stand out as a complete display rather than simply another standalone MG.
