Gundam Wing’s Latest Gunpla Kit Sees Bandai Debut New Color Shifting Technology

Bandai has fully revealed the “MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW [Structural Color Coating/Black]” whilst simultaneously opening pre-orders, several months after the kit was first announced in February 2026.

Wing Gundam Zero EW first appeared in Mobile Suit Gundam Wing: Endless Waltz, the sequel OVA to Mobile Suit Gundam Wing, where Heero Yuy pilots the redesigned mobile suit featuring its iconic feathered wings, devastating Twin Buster Rifle and the ability to transform into Neo-Bird Mode for atmospheric re-entry.

The new release joins Bandai Spirits’ MGSD line, which combines the engineering and detail of the Master Grade series with the compact proportions of SD Gundam kits, resulting in highly articulated models that retain impressive mechanical complexity despite their smaller size.

Based on the MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW kit originally released in late 2024, this exclusive edition retains the intricate internal frame construction, exceptional color separation, and wide range of articulation that made the original one of the standout entries in the MGSD lineup.

Builders can assemble the mobile suit from its fully articulated inner frame before attaching the exterior armor, while layered clear parts recreate the detailed twin-eye cameras and sensors, and the cockpit faithfully incorporates the ZERO System’s internal structure.

The biggest addition is the debut of “Structural Color Coating,” an industry-first finish for Gunpla that replaces the original metallic gloss injection E-runner parts with specially processed components that shift through a rainbow of colors depending on how light strikes them.

These iridescent parts are cleverly positioned beneath the armor so they become increasingly visible as the head, shoulders, and wings are opened, creating a dramatic contrast against the kit’s matte black and dark gray armor without changing the original mechanical design.

The signature feathered wings, Twin Buster Rifle and Neo-Bird Mode transformation have all been carried over from the original MGSD release, allowing builders to recreate some of Endless Waltz’s most memorable scenes while showcasing the exclusive finish.

The exclusive “MGSD Wing Gundam Zero EW [Structural Color Coating/Black]” is priced at ¥12,100 through Premium Bandai Japan and $137 USD through Premium Bandai US, where pre-orders are now open.

The kit is scheduled for release in November 2026.
