Ghost in the Shell’s New Limited Edition Watch Turns Cybernetics Into Functional Fashion
The cybernetic body of Ghost in the Shell’s Major Motoko Kusanagi has inspired a new mechanical watch that transforms the series’ futuristic technology into a wearable collector’s piece.
Created by Imperial Enterprise under its PREMICO brand, the official watch is based on the latest anime in the series and incorporates mechanical, network, and cybernetic imagery throughout its design.
Ghost in the Shell began with Masamune Shirow’s manga in 1989, introducing a future where cybernetic enhancement and direct connections between the human brain and vast information networks have become commonplace.
Its stories follow Major Motoko Kusanagi, a highly capable full-body cyborg who tackles increasingly complex cybercrime alongside the members of Public Security Section 9, with the franchise subsequently expanding through multiple anime adaptations, movies, games and a Hollywood live-action film.
The latest “The Ghost in the Shell” anime series began airing in Japan in July 2026, with Science SARU handling animation production and Moko-chan making their series directorial debut.
Maaya Sakamoto voices Motoko Kusanagi in the new adaptation, joined by Kazuhiro Yamaji as Daisuke Aramaki, Hiroki Yasumoto as Batou, Yuichi Nakamura as Togusa, Kosuke Goto as Ishikawa, Toru Nara as Saito, Marie Oi as the Operator, and Tomoko Kaneda as the Fuchikoma.
The new watch will be produced in a limited run of 1,989 pieces, directly referencing the year Shirow’s original manga made its debut, and draws directly from Major Kusanagi’s artificial body, using a blue dial ring inspired by the illuminated network world surrounding the series’ characters and a layered arrangement of metallic components across the face.
Wiring, plugs, and connectors are worked into the dial alongside details resembling spent ammunition casings, giving the face the appearance of exposed machinery rather than relying on conventional character artwork.
Its mechanical movement remains visible through the skeletonized section of the dial, allowing the moving internal components to become part of the cybernetic presentation.
Blue luminescent hour and minute hands continue the effect in darker surroundings, matching the cool tones used throughout the dial while keeping the time visible at night.
Each watch is accompanied by a special illustrated guide featuring Major Kusanagi and arrives inside a dedicated display case inspired by the Fuchikoma, bringing another recognizable piece of technology from the new anime into the presentation.
The watch is priced at ¥54,780 (approx. $347 USD / £258 GBP), with pre-orders now available through the official PREMICO online store.
Orders are scheduled to begin shipping from late December 2026.
