Gawr Gura to leave Hololive due to “differences with management”
Gawr Gura will officially leave Hololive this May, citing differences with the management agency that control the VTuber group as the reason behind the shock announcement.
On the 16th of April, Cover Corporation, the operating entity behind the prominent English-speaking Virtual YouTuber (VTuber) group known as “HoloLive English”, made a formal announcement concerning one of its key talents.
The announcement stated that Gawr Gura, a highly popular member of “HoloLive English,” will be concluding her activities with the group, a process referred to as “graduation,” on the date of May 1st, 2025.
Gawr Gura holds the distinction of being a founding member of “Myth”, which was the inaugural group to debut within the “Hololive English” branch.
She first started her virtual activities in the year 2020 and has since maintained a consistent and impactful presence within the VTuber community for approximately five years.
During this period of activity, Gawr Gura has amassed a remarkable following, currently exceeding 4.56 million subscribers on her primary platform.
This substantial subscriber count positions her as the most subscribed VTuber globally, underscoring her significant influence and popularity within the virtual entertainment sphere.
The announcement of Gawr Gura’s impending “graduation” was made publicly during her most recent live stream event, which was specifically titled “important announcement” signaling the significance of the information being shared with her fans.
In a formal statement released concurrently by Cover Corporation, the company acknowledged Gawr Gura’s substantial impact on the organization, commenting that “She has made a great contribution to the development of Hololive Production overseas”, highlighting her role in the growth and expansion of the VTuber agency’s international presence.
Regarding the underlying reasons for Gawr Gura’s decision to graduate, Cover Corporation explained that “We respected her wishes and accepted her request to graduate”, indicating that the decision was made in line with her personal desires.
In contrast to the company’s statement, Gawr Gura herself addressed the matter during her live stream, stating that the primary reasons for her graduation were differences in the overall direction she envisioned for her activities and the direction being pursued by the management and the company.
This suggests a divergence in long-term goals and operational approaches.
Concerning the future availability of related merchandise, Cover Corporation stated that information regarding the sale of Gawr Gura graduation-themed goods will be announced in due course through the official Hololive Production shop, providing fans with an opportunity to acquire commemorative items.
For fans wishing to express their appreciation and well wishes, Cover Corporation has announced that fan mail addressed to Gawr Gura will continue to be accepted until her graduation date of May 1st, 2025.
Additionally, her YouTube membership program and access to member-exclusive content will remain active for a limited period following her graduation, until August 1st, 2025 (Japan time), allowing existing members continued access to this content.
It is noteworthy that Gawr Gura’s graduation is part of a series of recent departures of talents across the Hololive agency, encompassing both the Japanese-speaking and English-speaking branches.
These prior graduations include Watson Amelia in October 2024 and Ceres Fauna on January 4th, 2025.
Murasaki Shion, a talent within the Japanese-speaking branch of Hololive, is also scheduled to “graduate” in April 2025, leaving the agency’s talent roster in a period of transition.
