Frieren’s Vermeer Collab Reveals Exclusive Merch as New Illustration Unveiled

A brand-new illustration for the Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End collaboration with Japan’s upcoming Vermeer exhibition has been revealed, alongside a selection of exclusive merchandise inspired by the special crossover.
Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End, created by Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe, has become one of the most celebrated modern fantasy series, following the long-lived elf mage Frieren as she reflects on the friendships and memories left behind after her legendary adventure comes to an end.

The collaboration was first announced in May ahead of the “Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring: Dutch Masterpieces of the 17th Century” exhibition at Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka, which celebrates Johannes Vermeer’s world-famous masterpiece while showcasing a collection of works from the Mauritshuis in the Netherlands during its temporary closure for renovation.

The exhibition marks the first time Girl with a Pearl Earring has returned to Japan since 2012.
Created exclusively for the exhibition by Frieren manga artist Tsukasa Abe, the newly revealed artwork reimagines Vermeer’s iconic painting by placing Frieren in the famous costume and pose from Girl with a Pearl Earring while Fern stands behind her holding an ornate picture frame in front of Frieren’s face to recreate the composition of the original masterpiece.

The newly illustrated artwork will feature across a range of collaboration merchandise that will be available ahead of the exhibition’s opening as part of a nationwide book fair.
The merch lineup includes an acrylic magnet priced at ¥1,200 (approx. $8 USD / £6 GBP), an acrylic stand featuring Frieren and Fern for ¥2,800 (approx. $19 USD / £14 GBP), a solo Frieren acrylic stand for ¥2,200 (approx. $15 USD / £11 GBP), and an A4 collaboration clear file for ¥700 (approx. $5 USD / £4 GBP).

There will also be a selection of non-collaboration original merchandise featuring Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring, including an A4 exhibition clear file for ¥660 (approx. $5 USD / £3 GBP) and a postcard set for ¥2,420 (approx. $17 USD / £12 GBP).
Fans purchasing selected books will also receive a bookstore-exclusive bookmark while supplies last, with participating titles including the exhibition’s official guidebook as well as books from Asahi Shimbun Publications, KADOKAWA, Gentosha, Shogakukan, Takarajimasha and Bijutsu Shuppan.

The collaboration merchandise will begin rolling out from July 20 through approximately 80 participating bookstores across Japan before also becoming available at the exhibition’s official shop, with online sales planned at a later date.
The related bookmark promotion will launch from July 20 at the same locations, as well as 180 other selected bookstores nationwide.
The “Vermeer’s Girl with a Pearl Earring: Dutch Masterpieces of the 17th Century” exhibition will be held at the Nakanoshima Museum of Art in Osaka from August 21 through September 27, 2026, with more details available via the official exhibition website.
