Free Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Demo Announced by Square Enix
Square Enix has announced the imminent release of a free playable demo for their upcoming RPG, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined.
The demo will allow players to experience the opening act of the game well ahead of its official release.
They have also revealed that save data from the demo can be carried over to the full game upon purchase.
Additionally, all users who play the demo and carry over their progress will receive a special reward: the “Day Off Dress” costume for the character Maribel, available for use in the main game.
Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is a full-scale remake of the 2000 PlayStation classic, Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past.
The title is scheduled for a worldwide launch on February 5, 2026.
The remake reimagines the classic JRPG with a new hand-crafted, diorama-style visual aesthetic that brings the world and its characters to life with charming 3D models.
Beyond the graphical overhaul, the game promises significant quality-of-life improvements and revamped battle mechanics.
Square Enix has confirmed that the story has been streamlined to improve pacing.
Combat sees upgrades, including the new Moonlighting mechanic, which allows characters to equip two Vocations simultaneously, and the introduction of the Monster Master Vocation, giving players more strategic options in the game’s turn-based encounters.
The demo is set to launch on January 7, 2026, on all launch platforms: PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, Switch 2, Switch, and PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store
