Sushiro opens new restaurant on Osaka’s iconic food street

Sushiro will soon open a new store in Osaka’s popular Dotonbori district.

Dotonbori is a well-known entertainment and dining area in Osaka, often characterized by its vibrant atmosphere and “kuidaore” (eat-until-you-drop) food culture.

The “Sushiro Dotonbori Store” will distinguish itself by offering exclusive menu items that are prepared with enhanced attention to detail, particularly in the areas of in-store food preparation and ingredient procurement, exceeding the standards of other Sushiro locations.

Customers are typically seated in booths next to the conveyor belt in Sushiro restaurants

Sushiro is one of Japan’s largest conveyor belt sushi resturant chains.

It traces its origins back to Taisushi, a sushi restaurant founded in Abeno-ku, Osaka.

Over the past four decades, Sushiro has expanded across Japan and is now entering its 41st year of operation.

The Sushiro Dotonbori store will be situated on the second floor of the Nakaza Kuidaore Building, a prominent landmark in the Dotonbori area that has recently undergone extensive renovations.

The Nakaza Kuidaore Building is particularly famous for the “Kuidaore Taro” mechanical doll located at its entrance and is recognized as one of the iconic symbols of the Dotonbori district.

Dotonbori attracts a large number of visitors, both domestic and international, drawn to its lively atmosphere and strong representation of traditional Osaka culture.

With Osaka hosting the World Expo in 2025, the area is anticipating a further surge in visitor numbers and increased activity.

Sushiro Dotonbori aims to cater to this diverse clientele by offering carefully selected sushi products and a distinctive store experience designed to allow both Japanese and international customers to enjoy sushi.

The interior design of the Sushiro Dotonbori store incorporates unique elements that evoke the memory of Nakaza, a theater that historically occupied a significant place in the Dotonbori district.

Upon entering the restaurant, guests will encounter 14 digital signage displays intended to recreate the traditional “maneki kanban” which were ornate billboards used to invite visitors to theatrical performances and showcase the names of the actors.

In anticipation of serving a broad range of customers, the Sushiro Dotonbori store has developed several limited-edition and exclusive menu items.

These include the continuous availability of wild bluefin tuna, previously offered at Sushiro stores for limited periods, as well as “live-caught” yellowtail (hamachi) and “live-caught” red sea bream (madai).

These select fish are delivered whole and raw directly from their source, adhering to strict freshness standards.

At the Dotonbori store, these fish will undergo in-store preparation, filleting and cutting.

This emphasis on in-store processing reflects Sushiro’s heritage as a conveyor-belt sushi restaurant founded by sushi chefs who prioritize the quality of ingredients and the meticulous preparation processes conducted within the restaurant.

The menu will also feature a variety of roll sushi, such as the carefully selected wild bluefin tuna avocado sushi roll and the raw salmon avocado sushi roll.

The Dotonbori store will open on Saturday, March 29th, 2025 and a full list of the Dotonbori store exclusive menu items, as well as pricing, have been confirmed by Sushiro.
