Sakura season at Starbucks Japan continues with new Matcha Frappuccino

Two drinks from Starbucks - the Matcha and Sakura Warabimochi Frappuccino® and the Hojicha and Classic Tea Latte with Sakura Warabimochi

Starbucks Japan are set to introduce two more drinks to their spring 2025 lineup.

The Matcha and Sakura Warabimochi Frappuccino® and the Hojicha and Classic Tea Latte with Sakura Warabimochi will be available at Starbucks stores nationwide starting Friday, February 28, 2025.

These are the second Sakura themed drinks released by Starbucks Japan this year after the White Peach and Cherry Blossom Warabi Mochi Frappuccino.

Two Sakura drinkware collections have also been released for spring 2025, one based on cherry blossom viewing in the daytime and a second based on evening viewing.

The overarching theme of this year’s SAKURA promotion is “Timeless Japanese Beauty.”

Starbucks aims to capture the enduring allure of cherry blossoms, which has captivated people across generations, by offering beverages that embody the ephemeral and subtle nuances of spring through their visual presentation, aroma, and flavor profiles.

The second phase of the promotion focuses on the fusion of traditional Japanese ingredients to create drinks that evoke the delicate beauty of the Japanese spring season.

Matcha and Sakura Warabimochi Frappuccino®

Matcha and Sakura Warabimochi Frappuccino® – Tall only
For [Take out] 678 yen (take-out) (approx. $4.53 USD/£3.59 GBP)
For [In-Store] 690 yen (in store) (approx. $4.61 USD/£3.65 GBP)

The “Matcha and Sakura Warabimochi Frappuccino®” is a seasonal offering that combines Starbucks’ classic Matcha Cream Frappuccino®, a long-standing favorite, with warabimochi infused with a gentle cherry blossom aroma, providing a lingering cherry blossom aftertaste.

The Frappuccino® features a bright green body, reminiscent of fresh cherry blossom leaves, and is a blend of rich matcha powder and milk.

At the bottom, warabimochi with a subtle cherry blossom petal-like hue is layered, offering a bouncy texture that emerges through the straw, reminiscent of traditional Japanese confectionery.

The whipped cream topping is enhanced with a sauce that blends the vibrant flavor of strawberries with a hint of cherry blossom, and is finished with a powder that accentuates the aroma of strawberries and raspberries.

The visual contrast between the green and cherry blossom pink evokes the image of cherry blossom leaves, creating a sense of timeless cherry blossom beauty.

Hojicha & Classic Tea Latte with Sakura Warabimochi

Hojicha & Classic Tea Latte with Sakura Warabimochi – For [Take out]

Tall 648 yen (approx. $4.33 USD / £3.42 GBP)

Venti 736 yen (approx. $4.92 USD / £3.89 GBP)
Add 12 yen (approx. $0.08 USD / £0.06 GBP) for in-store dining

The “Hojicha & Classic Tea Latte with Sakura Warabimochi” combines the Hojicha & Classic Tea Latte, a popular item reintroduced in the summer of 2024, with Sakura warabimochi, the same ingredient used in the Matcha and Sakura Warabimochi Frappuccino®.

The latte features a tea base of fragrant hojicha and black tea, complemented by a mellow white chocolate flavored syrup and rich fresh cream, offering a sweet and refreshing taste.

The addition of Sakura warabimochi creates a harmonious blend of hojicha, cherry blossoms, and warabimochi, resulting in a complex flavor profile.

The combination of the milky flavor and the subtle saltiness of the cherry blossoms provides a refreshing taste with each sip.

Having recently opened their 2,000th store in Japan, Starbucks continues to be a popular choice for coffee lovers and with so many new items to try this spring, there’s never been a better reason to stop by your nearest store for a drink.
