Seven Eleven celebrates Japan’s Cat Day with feline themed food

Seven Eleven is celebrating all things feline with a new range of cat themed snacks for Cat Day 2025!

Cat Day is an event that takes placed every February 22nd in Japan.

Known as “Neko no Hi” (猫の日), it is not a national holiday but it is a special day where people show their appreciation for cats.

February 22nd was chosen as Cat Day because the date is pronounced “Ni Ni Ni” in Japanese which resembles the Japanese onomatopoeia for a cat’s meow, “Nyan Nyan Nyan”.

To celebrate the day, Japan’s Seven Eleven chain of convenience stores will be introducing a range of 7 new items based on cats.

Many of the items include a pun where part of the name has been placed with “Nyan” or “Nya”.

The new range includes bread, desserts and chicken nuggets, so let’s take a look at the full line-up!

Caramel Whip Cat’s Tail Bread

Price: 181 yen (approx. $1.20 USD / £0.95 GBP)

This sweet bread has a striped pattern baked onto the top so that it resemble a cat’s tail and is filled with rich caramel whipped cream.

Paw Shaped Milk Cream Bread

Price: 194 yen (approx. $1.29 USD / £1.02 GBP)

This sweet bread sandwich has a milk cream filling.

Cat’s Paw Ki-“nya”-ko Mousse and Brown Sugar Jelly

A mousse and jelly dessert shaped like a cat paw

Price: 324 yen (approx. $2.15 USD / £1.71 GBP)

A sweet made by combining kinako (roasted soybean flour) mousse and brown sugar jelly.

Daifuku mochi filled with smooth bean paste and four dango dumplings are used to represent the shape of cat’s paw.

Gooey “Nya”-tarashi

Price: 213 yen (approx. $1.41 USD / £1.12 GBP)

This sweet treat sees mitarashi dango arranged in the shape of a cat’s paw topped with a refreshing sauce that has the flavor of dashi and the aroma of soy sauce.

Cat’s Paw Ti-“nya”-misu

Price: 299 yen (approx. $1.99 USD / £1.57 GBP)

A smooth tiramisu with sponge, cream and a fragrant coffee flavor, it’s topped with whipped cream that resembles a cat’s paw.

Saku-“nya”-ge Chicken Nuggets (Salted)

These chicken nuggets are shaped like a cat’s face! They are made from Japanese chicken and are coated in a lightly salted batter.

As with the other chicken nuggets, these are also shaped like a cat’s face and made from Japanese chicken, but the batter is cheese flavored.

All of these new products will be available in Seven Eleven stores throughout Japan from February 22nd, although stores in Okinawa will have a reduced selection available.
