Kitakyushu udon “soul food” restaurant opens first branch in Tokyo
Suke-san, a popular restaurant chain that originated in Kitakyushu City, Fukuoka Prefecture have announced the opening date for their first Tokyo restaurant.

This includes all seven prefectures in Kyushu as well as Yamaguchi, Okayama, Osaka, Hyogo, Hiroshima, and Chiba Prefectures.
The new restaurant will be located in the Ryogoku area of Tokyo’s Sumida Ward.
The Ryogoku area is famous for the Ryogoku Kokugikan Sumo Hall and is known as the “holy land of sumo”.
Due to the area’s connection with sumo, Suke-san have issued promotional material featuring sumo wrestlers to announce the opening of their Ryogoku store.
With a wide variety of menu items such as udon and rice bowls, Suke-san is considered an example of traditional Japanese “soul food”.
These simple, hearty and affordable dishes have led to the restaurant chain becoming a favorite destination for a wide range of customers, from children to the elderly.
Seasonal menu items such as tempura bowls and nabeyaki udon are also added to the menu throughout the year.
While Suke-san is an udon restaurant, it is famous for its “Botamochi” wagashi which are rice balls wrapped in red bean mochi.
Botamochi is such a popular menu item that Suke-san sells 5.4 million pieces per year.
This sweet is especially popular during the Buddhist Higan holidays that occur around the spring and autumn equinoxes and Suke-san can sell up to 270,000 Botamochi per week during these periods.
The new Ryogoku location will be their 75th store and only their second in the Kanto region.
The grand opening date for the Suke-san Udon Ryogoku store will be 24th February 2025.
If you want to visit the restaurant, it will be open 24 hours a day and is located at Lions Plaza Ryogoku which is an 11-minute walk from JR Ryogoku Station (East Exit) and a 5-minute walk from Toei Oedo Line Ryogoku Station.
