Final Fantasy IX Anime “Black Mages Legacy” Officially in Production

The first season of the Final Fantasy IX animated series has officially entered production at the studio EuroVisual as of March 18, 2026.
Titled Final Fantasy: Black Mages Legacy, the show was first announced in 2021 and is now moving forward with its debut season.

The initial season will consist of 10 episodes, with each installment featuring a runtime of 22 minutes.
This 2D animated project follows the story of Imel, Koln, Luciola, Thea, Fala, and Doc, who are identified as the children of the hero Vivi.

As the last dark mages remaining across the four continents, the siblings live a peaceful life in the city of Alexandria under the protection of its friendly residents.
The narrative takes a dark turn when Koln finds Mel frozen like a statue at his place of work, suggesting a troubling inheritance from their father.

The production by EuroVisual marks a significant expansion for the Final Fantasy IX universe as it transitions into a serialized animated format.
Fans of the original game can expect to see familiar locations like Alexandria explored through this new lens as the children confront their father’s legacy.
