City Hunter 40th Anniversary Exhibition comes to Tokyo this November

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the iconic manga City Hunter, the largest original art exhibition in the series’ history has been officially announced.
The new event, titled “City Hunter 40th Anniversary Exhibition ~FOREVER, CITY HUNTER!!~,” will be held this November at the Ueno Royal Museum in Tokyo.

City Hunter, created by Tsukasa Hojo, is a legendary action-comedy manga that was serialized from 1985 to 1991.
It follows the story of Ryo Saeba, an elite “sweeper” who is a master marksman but has an infamous weakness for beautiful women, and his partner, Kaori Makimura.

This new exhibition will allow fans to relive the bond between Ryo and Kaori, from their fateful first meeting to their time as irreplaceable partners, through a massive display of over 400 original, hand-drawn manga manuscripts and beautiful color illustrations.

The exhibition will also be an immersive, experiential event, featuring several photo spots that recreate iconic settings from the series.

At the entrance, visitors will find a replica of the famous “XYZ” message board from Shinjuku Station.

The venue will also feature a photo spot of Ryo Saeba’s underground shooting range, as well as a full recreation of the “Cat’s Eye” cafe, where a life-sized Ryo Saeba will be waiting to greet visitors.

In a comment, the series’ original author, Tsukasa Hojo, said:
“That City Hunter has been able to celebrate its 40th anniversary is all thanks to the fans who have supported it.
I hope that at this exhibition, you can feel even a little of the passion of the era in which Ryo and Kaori lived, and the feelings that I myself put into the work.”
A wide variety of exclusive, original merchandise will also be sold at the event.
