Chiikawa is coming to Disney+ this September

The Walt Disney Company Japan has announced that the hugely popular anime series “Chiikawa” will be added to its Disney+ streaming service.
This move will make the viral hit series widely available to a new and expanded audience.

Chiikawa, created by the illustrator Nagano, has grown into a cultural phenomenon in Japan, following the daily lives of small, cute creatures in a surprisingly harsh and challenging world.

The anime is known for its unique format of very short, charming episodes that are broadcast daily.

The new announcement confirms that the entire first season of the anime, which consists of a massive 240 episodes, will be made available on the platform all at once.

This will allow fans to binge-watch the full run of the first season for the first time on the service.

The streaming release comes as new episodes of the anime have recently resumed their broadcast, with a new series of episodes having started on the 15th of July.

The addition of the back catalog to Disney+ will allow new viewers to get caught up on the story.

The first season of the Chiikawa anime is scheduled to begin streaming on Disney+ on Wednesday, the 17th of September, 2025.

No announcement has been made regarding a global release for the series, however, it does seem likely that Disney will look to expand the licensing agreement to air Chiikawa on Disney+ in other territories, given how popular it has become with audiences worldwide.
