Build your own Metal Gear REX as popular Metal Gear Solid model kit gets a re-release

Kotobukiya has announced a re-release of its popular 1/100 scale plastic model kit of the iconic Metal Gear REX.
The new production run of the sought-after kit offers fans of the classic 1998 PlayStation game, Metal Gear Solid, a new opportunity to build the legendary bipedal tank.

Metal Gear REX is the nuclear-equipped weapon that serves as the final boss of the game, and its unique and influential design has made it one of the most famous and iconic mechs in video game history.

Another figure of Metal Gear REX was recently announced by Bandai Spirits, who will be releasing a die-cast metal figure of the tank under their high-end “Chogokin” line.

Kotobukiya’s 1/100 scale model kit is a detailed recreation of the iconic machine, with a completed length of approximately 220 millimeters.

The kit also comes with a comprehensive set of accessories that allow the builder to recreate the game’s climactic final battle scene.

A special, hangar-themed display base is included with the model.

Additionally, a set of four different, unpainted miniature character figures is also included in the package.

The included figures are:
- Solid Snake
- Liquid Snake
- Cyborg Ninja (standing)
- Cyborg Ninja (being crushed by Metal Gear REX)

This comprehensive set provides all the necessary elements to create a detailed diorama of the iconic confrontation.

The 1/100 scale “Metal Gear REX” model kit is priced at ¥10,780 (approx. $73 USD/£54 GBP), and the re-release of the kit is scheduled for April 2026.
