Bandai reveals first look inside the Gundam Pavilion at Osaka Expo 2025

The first images of what visitors to the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025 can expect from its “Gundam Pavilion” have now been revealed.

Bandai Namco held an opening ceremony for the “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION” on the 9th of April 2025, revealing a first look inside the pavilion.

The “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION” aims to translate the themes of “life in space” and “science and technology yet to be realized” which are central to the iconic “Mobile Suit Gundam” anime franchise into and thoughtfully designed spatial environments that bring these futuristic concepts to life.

Bandai Namco have provided a first look at the interior of the Gundam Pavilion

The pavilion will primarily feature a new, immersive video presentation titled “GUNDAM: Next Universal Century”.

Inside the pavilion, visitors will be transported to a potential future where humanity has established a significant presence in space, envisioning a world where life in space is common.

The interior of the pavilion will replicate an orbital space base typical of the Gundam series

This future scenario depicts individuals casually utilizing orbital elevators to travel to space stations and showcases a society where humans and mobile suits – the giant, humanoid combat vehicles synonymous with the Gundam series – coexist.

Visitors can experience a simulated journey on an orbital elevator

The core experience within the pavilion will simulate a journey from a Space Port situated on Yumeshima, the artificial island hosting the Osaka-Kansai Expo, to the “Star Jaburo” station via a futuristic orbital elevator.

Set within the context of a new era in the Gundam timeline known as the “New Universal Century”, the immersive video will showcase a world where humanity and mobile suits are integrated into daily life.

The pavilion will showcase a possible future inspired by the Gundam series

The presentation will feature various mobile suit designs, including a GUNDAM unit equipped with the newly designed G.L.R.S.S. Feather UNIT and even a redesigned version of HARO, the franchise’s iconic spherical robot companion.

The popular HARO mascots from the series will be also be represented at the pavilion

To enhance the sense of immersion, the pavilion will be equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

Large-scale screens, reaching a maximum size of 18 meters in width and 8 meters in height, will provide a visually stunning backdrop for the “GUNDAM: Next Universal Century” video.

The pavilion is also home to the newest life-size Gundam statue in Japan

The pavilion will also incorporate a Haptic Floor system powered by Sony’s Haptics technology.

This innovative feature will deliver delicate and highly realistic tactile sensations synchronized with the visual and auditory elements of the experience, further engaging visitors at each phase of their journey through the pavilion.

The “New Universal Century” and the vision of “The Future Co-existing with Mobile Suits” will be presented in high-definition graphics rendered using Unreal Engine 5, promising a visually impressive and seamless immersive experience.

It has also been announced that Sunday, July 20th, 2025, will be designated as “Pavilion Day” at the Osaka-Kansai Expo.

The pavilion and Gundam statue will also light up at night

On this special day, a series of GUNDAM-themed events are planned to take place at the Expo’s “Shine Hat” Expo Hall.

These events will offer further engagement with the Gundam universe for Expo attendees.

The “Mobile Suit Gundam” series, having captivated audiences for over 45 years across numerous anime series, films, and other media, will be celebrated during the “Pavilion Day” events.

A retrospective of the franchise’s history will be presented through a montage of iconic images and memorable music from its extensive catalog.

Pavilion Day will see a Gundam themed concert held at the Expo

To further enhance the experience, the Osaka Symphony Orchestra will provide a rich musical interpretation of Gundam’s iconic soundtracks.

The event will also feature a performance by prominent Japanese artist Takanori Nishikawa, also known as T.M.Revolution, known for his contributions to numerous anime theme songs including intro’s for Gundam SEED and Gundam SEED Destiny.

Bandai Namco promises a unique musical experience based on beloved GUNDAM theme songs that will not be found anywhere else, making “Pavilion Day” a highly anticipated event for fans attending the Expo.

The “GUNDAM NEXT FUTURE PAVILION” is expected to be a major draw at the Osaka-Kansai Expo 2025, offering a compelling blend of entertainment, technological innovation, and a glimpse into the futuristic possibilities envisioned within the hugely popular Gundam universe.
