What to expect at Kōdai-ji Zen Temple Autumn Illuminations 2024

2024 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of the founder of Kōdai-ji temple, Nene Kitamandokoro.

To commemorate the anniversary the front garden of the temple will be lit using specially curated illuminations, with the theme of “Prayer”. 

Before the illumations start, you can also enjoy the temples garden which at this time of year will be bathed in autumnal hues.

When will Kōdai-ji Zen Temple Autumn Illuminations 2024 take place?

Kōdai-ji Zen Temple Autumn Illuminations 2024 will run from the 25th October 2024 until the 15th December 2024.

The illuminations will be switched on at 5pm until 9:30pm (temple gates close at 10pm).

How much does Kōdai-ji Zen Temple Autumn Illuminations 2024 cost?

Adult tickets are 600 yen.

Child tickets are 250 yen.

Nearest Station: Kōdai-ji Zen Temple Autumn Illuminations 2024 can be reached by Gion-Shijō Station using the Keihan Main Line (KH39)

Alternatively Kodai-ji is located close to Higashiyama Station, which can be accessed using the Tōzai Line (T10)

Kōdai-ji Zen Temple can also be reached from Kawaramachi Station using the Hankyu Kyoto Main Line (HK86)
