Teenager arrested in fatal stabbing of elderly woman in Chiba

A 15-year-old male junior high school student was apprehended by police on Monday in connection with the fatal stabbing of 84-year-old Yayoi Takahashi in Chiba City.
This news comes at a time when there appear to have been an increase in stabbing incidents in Japan, with recent incidents including that of a man who stabbed fellow passengers on a subway train in Tokyo in early May.
Chiba Prefectural Police arrested the student, a resident of Wakaba Ward in Chiba City, on suspicion of murder. The arrest followed a period of voluntary questioning earlier on Monday.
During questioning, the boy told investigators he ‘felt like killing someone, and it did not matter who’.

Police responded to an emergency call at approximately 5:10 p.m. on Sunday reporting that an elderly woman was lying injured on a street in Wakaba Ward. Upon arrival at the scene, officers discovered Takahashi bleeding extensively.
Takahashi was immediately transported to a hospital for urgent medical treatment but was subsequently pronounced dead.

The location of the stabbing is situated within a residential area, approximately 300 meters north of Sakuragi Station on the Chiba Urban Monorail line.
Police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death of Takahashi.
