When will cherry blossoms bloom in Osaka in 2025?

Experts have confirmed when to expect the cherry blossom season to start in Osaka.

The Japan Weather Association have released the official “2025 Cherry Blossom Bloom Forecast” for Japan and have determined when cherry blossoms should start to bloom across the country.

Each year Osaka eagerly anticipates the arrival of spring and the start of the cherry blossom season.

This annual bloom transforms the city into a picturesque landscape, drawing locals and visitors alike to celebrate the beauty of nature.

Knowing when to expect these blossoms is key to experiencing this magical season and anticipating the first bloom is a national obsession.

Predicting the exact timing of Osaka’s cherry blossom bloom is a blend of science and observation.

Forecasters meticulously track weather patterns, temperature changes, and the specific types of cherry trees prevalent in the area.

Generally speaking, the cherry blossom season in Osaka typically begins in late March and reaches its peak in early April.

Osaka offers a plethora of stunning locations to immerse yourself in the beauty of the cherry blossom season. Here are some of the most beloved spots:

  • Osaka Castle Park: A majestic symbol of the city, Osaka Castle provides a dramatic backdrop for cherry blossom viewing. The park surrounding the castle boasts hundreds of cherry trees, creating a breathtaking spectacle.  
  • Kema Sakuranomiya Park: Situated along the Okawa River, this park stretches for several kilometers and is renowned for its stunning cherry blossom tunnel. Enjoy a leisurely stroll or a relaxing picnic under the blooming trees.  
  • Expo ’70 Commemorative Park: This expansive park, the site of the 1970 World Expo, features a variety of gardens and landscapes, including a beautiful cherry blossom grove.

According to the official forecast, Osaka should expect the cherry blossom season to begin around 25th March.

Other areas of the country will see the cherry blossom season start slightly earlier or later in March/April.

Cherry blossoms should start appearing from 20th March in both Fukuoka and Kochi.

It is expected to start in Tokyo on the 22nd and Nagoya on the 23rd with southern and central Japan being in full bloom by the end of March.

In April, the front will move northwards with blossoms starting to appear in Sendai from 2nd April and in Aomori from the 16th.

The last area of the country to see the cherry blossom season start will be Hokkaido where it begins in late April with cherry blossoms expected in Sapporo from the 23rd.
