When will cherry blossoms bloom in Fukuoka in 2025?

We now know when the cherry blossom season is expected to begin in Fukuoka.

The Japan Weather Association have issued their official “2025 Cherry Blossom Bloom Forecast” and have determined when cherry blossoms are expected to start blooming across Japan.

Fukuoka is a vibrant city on the island of Kyushu and enjoys an earlier cherry blossom season than much of the rest of Japan.

This makes it a fantastic destination for those eager to experience the beauty of sakura without waiting for the blooms to reach their peak further north.

So, when can you expect to see the cherry blossom trees start to bloom in Fukuoka?

Predicting the precise timing of the cherry blossom season is a delicate science, relying on a the study of weather patterns, temperature, and the variety of cherry trees in each locality.

While exact dates varies from year to year, the season in Fukuoka usually runs from late March to early April.

Throughout Japan, the cherry blossom season is notoriously short, often lasting under a month.

Fukuoka offers a variety of beautiful locations to enjoy the sakura in their full glory. Here are some popular spots:  

  • Maizuru Park: Located in the heart of Fukuoka City, Maizuru Park is a popular spot for picnics. The park features hundreds of cherry trees, creating a stunning display of pink and white. The ruins of Fukuoka Castle add an extra layer of historical charm to the experience.

  • Atago Shrine: Perched on a hill overlooking the city, Atago Shrine offers panoramic views of Fukuoka and the surrounding area, including the blooming cherry trees. The combination of the shrine’s traditional architecture and the sakura blossoms creates a picturesque scene.
  • Uminonakamichi Seaside Park: This expansive park features a variety of gardens and landscapes, including a beautiful cherry blossom grove. It’s a great place to spend a day outdoors, enjoying the cherry blossoms and other spring flowers.
  • Kashii Kaen: This flower park features a variety of seasonal blooms, including cherry blossoms in the spring. It’s a great place for families with children, as it offers a variety of attractions and activities.

According to the official forecast, Fukuoka can expect the cherry blossom season to start from 20th March this year.

Cherry blossoms are expected to start blooming in Kochi on March 20th.

Kochi is expected to begin seeing cherry blossoms from the 20th March

Other areas of the country will see the cherry blossom season start shortly after.

It is expected to start in Nagoya on the 23rd and reach Osaka on the 25th with southern and central Japan being in full bloom by the end of March.

You can see cherry blossoms in Tokyo from the 22nd March

In April the cherry blossom season should start in northern Japan with blossoms appearing in Sendai from 2nd April and in Aomori from the 16th.

The season starts in Hokkaido in late April with cherry blossoms expected in Sapporo from the 23rd.

As with any forecast, it may be subject to change and the Japan Weather Association plan to issue updated forecasts if required.
