Take a look inside Harajuku micro pig cafe’s new gaming themed room
A popular cafe in Harajuku has created a new gaming themed room to allow more space for visitors to enjoy the experience of interacting with micro pigs.
mipig cafe Harajuku Takeshita Street has seen over 65,000 visitors since their opening in March 2024 and is often fully booked due to the popularity and novelty of being able to play and interact with micro pigs.
The cafe is based around the concept of preparing micro pigs for life as domestic pets. Each pig is born on a farm and once old enough, transferred to the cafe to begin preparing for their forever home.
Whilst at the cafe, the pigs learn how to interact socially with humans before they are matched with their new family. The new family are then supported by the cafe’s specialist staff to ensure their new porcine family member settles in well in their new home.
Previously, visitors to the cafe could only interact with the pigs in one room called the “Sakura Floor”.
Due to the overwhelming demand the cafe has expanded to an additional floor, which is based on the concept of video games.
The cafe’s “Game Room” officially opened on the 23rd of December and allows more visitors to have their very own micro pig experience, as well as increasing the available space that the pigs have to explore.
If you plan to visit, reservations are highly recommended, as even with the new expansion, mipig cafe Harajuku Takeshita Street is incredibly popular and is often fully booked in advance. Reservations can be made via the mipig cafe official website.
Prices start from 2,750 yen (approx. $17.44 USD/£13.96 GBP) for a 30 minute session, with each additional 30 minutes costing an extra 1,650 yen (approx. $10.47 USD/£8.37 GBP).
If you’re not planning on visiting Harajuku any time soon, you can always look to visit of the 14 other mipig cafe stores across Japan to have your very own micro pig experience.
