Events in Tokyo this week – 4th November to 10th November
In what is set to be another busy week in Tokyo, we’ve rounded up all of the events due to start this week, as well as events that are ongoing or due to end shortly.
Cultural celebrations, markets and art exhibitions are some of the week’s highlights, so let’s take a look at the new events set to start in this first week of November.
New events this week in Tokyo
With it’s brightly decorated kumade (decorative rakes) and other lucky charms, Tori no Ichi or “The Festival of the Rooster” is one of Japan’s most recognisable festivals taking place in late autumn.
The fair takes place at 3 different shrines across Tokyo, in Fuchu, Asakusa and Shinjuku.
Set to run on 3 separate days throughout November, the first fairs will run on the 5th of November.
Tokyo Art Week will kick off on the 7th of November, with this celebration of art aiming to grow Tokyo’s art ecosystem through four days of special events across Harajuku, Omotesando, Roppongi and Shibuya.
Roppongi Hills Christmas Illumination, which starts on the 7th of November, sees the 390-meter-long Keyakizaka Dori sparkling with around 800,000 LED lights.
With winter upon us, the Snow Bank Pay It Forward: Tokyo Snow Festival, taking place in Yoyogi from the 9th to 10th November, is a great start to the season.
40 different athletes will be showing off their snow sport skills and there will also be musical performances from popular acts such as TOTALFAT and DAZE BAND.
Suginami Festa 2024 invites the community of Suginami to celebrate their local area, which is also home to migrants from Uzbekistan and Pakistan.
Two other events will be running in the Suginami area at the same time, with the Suginami Bread Festival & Sweets Fair and Sugi Ani Expo set to welcome fans of baked goods and anime respectively.
Popular markets return this coming weekend, with 5 different events to choose from across the 9th and 10th of November at Ohi Racecourse, Hanazono Shrine, Nakano Central Park, Shibuya Garden Tower and Shimokitazawa University.
Events ending this week in Tokyo
Halloween events at Tokyo Disney Resort and Sanrio Puroland come to a close this week, ending on the 7th and 5th of November respectively.
The annual rose festival at Kyu-Furukawa Gardens will end on the 8th of November, with visitors being invited to view over 100 variety of autumnal roses.
Ongoing events in Tokyo
Chrysanthemum Festivals are in full swing in Tokyo this November, with 6 different events currently taking place.
If illuminations are more your type of event, you’ll want to head down to Ohi Racecourse this November to visit Tokyo Mega Illumination, a family friendly event that sees the racecourse lit up each evening until the 12th of January.
Yomiuriland, a popular theme park in Inagi, also continues its annual Jewellumination event.
Set to run until April 2025, “Jewellumination” sees the park lit up with thousands of lights over the winter season.
Anime fans won’t want to miss two ongoing exhibitions based on the popular manga/anime series Tokyo Ghoul and ONE PIECE.
The Tokyo Ghoul EX Exhibition, taking place at the Terada Warehouse G1 Building in Shinagawa, features replicas of locations seen in the anime series, as well as interactive exhibits and an immersive cinema experience.
The ONE PIECE ONLY EXHIBITION, taking place at the PLAY! Museum, is set to offer a unique behind the scenes look at the creation of one of its most important chapters and is a must see for any fan of the series.
If you’re looking for a more adventurous experience the Mount Takao Autumn Leaves Festival, which runs until December 8th, offers hikers and visitors to Mount Takao the opportunity to celebrate the autumnal foliage around the mountain.
