South Korea’s Jeju Air adds new route to one of Hokkaido’s most popular tourist cities

South Korean low-cost carrier Jeju Air has announced a new direct flight route connecting Hakodate Airport in Hokkaido, Japan, and Incheon International Airport in Seoul, South Korea.

Jeju Air was established in 2005 and holds the distinction of being Korea’s number one low-cost carrier.

Currently, Jeju Air operates an extensive network of 66 routes connecting 49 cities across the Asia-Pacific region including many in Japan.

The new Hakodate-Incheon service is scheduled to start running from June 5th, 2025, offering a new travel option between the popular Japanese tourist destination and the South Korean capital.

The Hakodate-Incheon route will operate twice weekly, with flights departing from Hakodate every Thursday and Sunday at 17:20 Japan Standard Time (JST) before arriving at Incheon International Airport at 20:25 Korea Standard Time (KST).

The return flights from Incheon will depart at 13:45 KST, arriving in Hakodate at 16:20 JST.

Jeju Air expect this new route to be incredibly popular and have already announced that they will be increasing the flight frequency starting from July 1st, 2025 in anticipation of what they expect to be significant demand for flights between Seoul and Hakodate.

The number of flights will be increased to four per week, with additional flights scheduled on Tuesdays and Saturdays, supplementing the initial Thursday and Sunday services.

Jeju Air has been actively working to enhance travel convenience for Japanese passengers seeking to visit South Korea.

The airline already operates direct flights connecting Incheon with major Japanese cities including Tokyo (Narita), Osaka (Kansai), and Fukuoka, as well as other regional cities such as Hiroshima, Matsuyama, Shizuoka, and Kagoshima.

The addition of the Hakodate route marks a further expansion of Jeju Air’s network in Japan, providing more direct links between Japanese regions and South Korea.

The number of Japanese passengers utilizing Jeju Air services has shown positive growth.

In the first quarter of 2025 (January-March), the airline recorded approximately 119,700 Japanese passengers, representing a 15.3% increase compared to the 103,910 passengers during the same period in the previous year, indicating a growing demand for Jeju Air’s routes.

To commemorate the launch of the new Hakodate-Incheon route and to incentivize travelers, Jeju Air will be conducting a special ticket discount campaign.

The campaign will run from 10:00 JST on Tuesday, May 13th, to Saturday, May 31st, 2025. During this period, discount codes offering up to 30% off will be distributed for tickets valid for boarding between Thursday, June 5th, and Saturday, October 25th, 2025.

The minimum one-way fare after applying the discount will be 10,360 yen. Further details regarding the discount campaign and the new route schedule are available on Jeju Air’s official website.
