Limited-edition Pokémon sunscreen goes on sale in Japan

Pokémon fans will be able to protect themselves from UV rays this summer with a new range of themed sunscreen.

ANESSA, Shiseido’s highly popular sunscreen brand, is set to delight fans of both skincare and the Pokémon franchise with the release of limited-edition Pokémon collaboration bottles.

The special packaging will feature designs inspired by the Pokémon characters Pikachu, Piplup, and Sprigatito.

Beyond the appealing aesthetics of the new bottles, this collaboration also incorporates an environmentally conscious aspect.

The new Pokémon bottles will be sold using paper display packaging

The new bottles are presented as an earth-friendly choice, as the bottles will be wrapped in recyclable paper/card packaging rather than the plastic or foil display packaging typical of Japanese brands.

This collaboration aims to celebrate the sense of adventure and the optimism of embracing new beginnings that the Pokémon franchise is known for, with the tagline “Let’s go on to the next adventure”.

The limited-edition ANESSA sunscreen will be available in three distinct Pokémon-themed designs:

Pikachu

The iconic Electric-type Pokémon takes center stage on a lively yellow bottle, prominently featuring Pikachu’s recognizable face and signature red cheeks. This design captures Pikachu’s energetic and universally appealing nature.

Sprigatito

The Grass Cat Pokémon from the Paldea region is showcased on a bottle inspired by its verdant coloring, with a green body and the character’s striking bright pink eyes. This design embodies Sprigatito’s whimsical yet dependable charm.

Piplup

The Water-type Penguin Pokémon is featured on a refreshing light blue bottle, highlighting Piplup’s distinctive facial design. This design aims to convey Piplup’s energetic and water-loving personality.

To ensure fans have the opportunity to secure their preferred Pokémon design, ANESSA and Amazon Japan are offering advance reservations.

Pre-orders will be available exclusively on Amazon Japan (amazon.co.jp) from 0:00 AM on Wednesday, April 16th, until 11:59 PM on Sunday, April 20th (Japan Standard Time).

A 15 second TV advert will be broadcast in Japan to promote the collaboration

Given the limited quantities of these special collaboration bottles, early reservation is strongly recommended to avoid disappointment.

The “Pokémon x ANESSA” collaboration sunscreen will officially go on sale on Monday, April 21st, 2025, in limited quantities.

The product will be available at various stores nationwide across Japan, as well as through online retailers including Amazon Japan.
