New watch celebrates Hanshin Tigers baseball team’s 90th anniversary

A limited edition watch will soon be released to mark the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Hanshin Tigers professional baseball team.

The Hanshin Tigers, based in Nishinomiya, Hyogo Prefecture, were established in 1935 and are one of the oldest and most historically significant teams in Japanese professional baseball.

This special limited edition watch will be available for purchase through various channels, including online, mail-order catalogs, newspaper mail order services, and select retail outlets.

The “Hanshin Tigers Radio Solar Chronograph” is a limited production run of 2,025 individual timepieces, directly corresponding to the anniversary year and underscoring the exclusivity of the product.

Each watch features a unique edition number, ranging from 1 to 2,025, which is engraved on the case back along with the official Hanshin Tigers 90th-anniversary logo.

The assignment of these edition numbers will be conducted randomly, and customers will not be able to request or specify a particular number.

The watch is designed with a versatile aesthetic, offering two interchangeable band options to suit different preferences and occasions.

It comes equipped with both a stainless steel metal band, providing a classic and robust appearance, and a black leather band, offering a more refined and casual style.

A specialized tool is included with the watch to facilitate easy switching between the two band types.

The black leather band is crafted from textured cowhide and features yellow stitching, incorporating the Hanshin Tigers’ team colors. The team logo is also engraved on the underside of the leather band.

The “Hanshin Tigers Radio Solar Chronograph” is packaged in a specially designed presentation box that commemorates the team’s 90th anniversary.

The box features detailed design elements related to the Hanshin Tigers and is intended to be a collectible item for fans, suitable for display or gifting.

The watch incorporates radio wave timekeeping technology, ensuring accurate timekeeping by receiving Japanese standard time signals from the Otakadoya Mountain Standard Time and Frequency Transmitting Station and the Hagane Mountain Standard Time and Frequency Transmitting Station.

This system boasts an accuracy of approximately 1 second per 100,000 years and automatically corrects the time, eliminating the need for manual adjustments anywhere within Japan where the radio signals are receivable.

The timepiece is powered by a solar charging system, which converts light sources, including indoor lighting and sunlight, into electrical energy that is stored in a battery.

This technology negates the necessity for regular battery replacements, contributing to the watch’s longevity and offering an environmentally conscious and cost-effective power solution.

The watch case measures approximately 42mm in length, 42mm in width, and 15mm in thickness. The weight of the watch is approximately 175 grams when fitted with the stainless steel band.

The stainless steel band is adjustable to fit wrist sizes ranging from 14 to 23 centimeters, while the cow leather band accommodates wrist sizes from 16.5 to 20.5 centimeters.

The watch is now available for pre-order via Japanese retailer Anime Collection and pre-orders are expected to begin shipping in mid-April 2025.
