Horror in Osaka as man arrested after car rams into seven schoolchildren

Police in Osaka apprehended a 28-year-old male individual following an incident on the 1st of May that left seven schoolchildren injured.

The man was arrested after his vehicle collided with the schoolchildren and police are investigating the event as potentially being an intentional act.

The children, who were en route home from their educational institution, sustained injuries necessitating immediate transport to a medical facility; however, authorities confirmed that all seven remained conscious. One child reportedly suffered a significant facial injury, according to police reports.

Yuki Yazawa, identified as an unemployed resident of Tokyo and the driver of the involved automobile, was taken into custody at the scene by the Osaka Prefectural Police. The arrest was made under suspicion of attempted murder.

Preliminary reports from the police indicate that Yazawa allegedly stated he was “fed up with everything” and that he purposefully attempted to cause the deaths of the schoolchildren by driving his car into their group.

An eyewitness recounted to the broadcaster Nippon TV that the vehicle was observed to be “zigzagging” as it impacted the children, with one female child reportedly “covered in blood” and other children exhibiting what appeared to be superficial injuries.

Nippon TV further quoted a witness stating that Yazawa was “wearing a surgical mask and looked like he was in shock” in the aftermath of the incident, after being removed from the vehicle by schoolteachers present at the location.
