Tekken celebrates 30th anniversary with limited edition sake
Tekken celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2024 and a new collaboration has been announced to mark the occasion.
Following in the footsteps of other videogame related drink collaborations, such as the Yakuza sake released earlier this year, Tekken is getting its very own sake collaboration with Masuda Sake Brewery.
Based in Toyama, Japan, Masuda Sake Brewery is most well known for its “Masuizumi” sake and with traditional sake brewing having just gained status as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO, this team up comes at a time of rising popularity for the classic Japanese drink.
“Masuizumi” is a premium Japanese sake brand brewed using the famous waters of Toyama Prefecture and carefully selected sake rice to create Junmai Daiginjo sake, which is characterized by its gorgeous aroma and delicate flavor.
Limited to 300 units, the Tekken 30th Anniversary Sake will be issued in 5 different bottle designs, each of which comes in the same limited edition packaging.
The sake itself comes bundled with a unique trading card, which along with the packaging was designed by French visual artist Polygon1993.
Fan favorite characters Jin, Kazuya, Heihachi, Jun and Reina all feature in the collaboration, though each bottle will be supplied randomly, meaning you unfortunately can’t select which character you’ll receive.
Each bottle will be priced at 33,000 yen (approx. $218.21 USD/£170.74 GBP), with sales initially limited to the sake bar ‘Bar de Mifumi’, which is located outside of Toyama Station.
Advanced reservations can be made at the bar in late December 2024 for delivery in late January 2025.
Once advance reservations close, remaining stock will be sold online via the sake’s special website. The online sale date is still to be confirmed, but will be announced via relevant social media channels closer to the end of the advance reservation period.
For those located in Japan, this limited edition collaboration may just be worth a visit to Toyama and ‘Bar de Mifumi’ to reserve your bottle in late December.
If you’re not based in Japan, don’t worry – once online sales open you may be able to use the services of a proxy to ship your bottle to wherever you’re located.
We’ll bring you further updates once online sales are announced – so make sure to check back regularly for more information!
