Nintendo reveal date for next Switch 2 update
Nintendo plans to reveal more detailed information about the upcoming Switch 2 console as part of a new Nintendo Direct video on 2nd April 2025.
The company recently held their third-quarter financial results briefing where President Shuntaro Furukawa also stated that they plan to hold “Nintendo Switch 2 Trial Events” globally so that fans can try the new console before release.
While Furukawa remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the new console, he addressed pricing concerns amidst global inflation and fluctuating exchange rates.
He stated that they are considering various factors but have no current plans to change the price of the existing Nintendo Switch, even with a new console on the horizon.
Regarding software development, as part of the briefing, Nintendo confirmed that “Pokémon LEGENDS Z-A” and “Metroid Prime 4 Beyond” are among the Switch titles planned for release in 2025.
They emphasized their commitment to supporting the existing Switch console with compelling software while also prioritizing dedicated titles for the Switch 2 launch.
Furukawa also discussed Nintendo’s mobile strategy, highlighting the nearly 900 million downloads of their mobile apps.
While acknowledging the shift in younger generations first experiencing gaming on smartphones, he reiterated the importance of mobile games in terms of expanding exposure to Nintendo IP’s and driving interest in their core console business.
He also addressed the role of online services, confirming that Nintendo Switch Online will continue on the Switch 2 and that they are working on new online services based on the playtest program they ran.
Finally, Furukawa addressed production plans for the Switch 2, stating that they are taking risks to meet anticipated demand.
While acknowledging potential challenges in rapidly scaling production, he assured investors that they are leveraging past experience to prepare for various demand scenarios.
He also clarified that increased inventory levels are primarily related to preparations for the Switch 2 launch, and not due to excess stock of the current Switch model.
