Granny Smith creates a Year of the Snake themed Apple Pie for New Year’s 2025
Japanese apple pie specialty store Granny Smith will be celebrating the upcoming Lunar New Year with a specially themed apple pie.
Granny Smith is an apple pie specialty store with 12 locations in Japan. Their first store opened in Mishuku, Setagaya Ward in 2012.
They use apples from Aomori and Nagano depending on the season and recipe and always have eight types of apple pies in stock, including limited-edition menu items inspired by seasonal events.
The new Matcha Tiramisu Apple Pie is inspired by the 2025 zodiac sign of the Snake and features a suitably reptilian themed design.
To create this unique dish, a sweet pastry base is filled with matcha-flavored almond cream which is then layered with sweet black beans and plenty of apples from Aomori Prefecture before being baked with smooth mascarpone cheese.
After being baked, each slice is carefully covered with gyuhi, a thin and soft variety of mochi, which is then topped with matcha green tea powder and a black bean coated in gold leaf.
The color and shape of the cake, as well as the placement of the black bean as though it were an eye, create a unique looking dessert perfect for the Year of the Snake.
Available from 1st January 2025, Granny Smith’s Matcha Tiramisu Apple Pie will be priced at 700 yen per slice for take-out orders or 920 yen for eat-in orders.
