Godzilla themed sweets released in Japan to celebrate 70th anniversary

Japanese sweets company Monteur has unveiled the latest products in its special collaboration project with Godzilla.

This collaboration, “Monteur vs. Godzilla,” commemorates the 70th anniversaries of both Godzilla and Monteur, which are taking place this year.

Two new products will be launched on Tuesday, April 1st, 2025: “Godzilla Choux Dark Chocolat,” which features a large, black choux pastry filled with a rich, black cocoa custard flavor specifically developed for this collaboration, and “Godzilla Eclair Dark Chocolat,” a black pastry topped with chocolate chips to evoke Godzilla’s rugged texture.

The packaging designs, characterized by a predominantly black color scheme, emphasizes Godzilla’s formidable presence.

As part of this special collaboration, a promotional video combining the worldview of Monteur and Godzilla has also been created.

The video utilizes the Godzilla universe to represent Monteur’s longstanding commitment to bringing joy and excitement to snack time through its sweets.

“Godzilla Choux/Cream Puff Dark Chocolat”

This product features a two-layered filling of black cocoa custard and smooth chocolate cream, made with homemade pasteurized milk, black cocoa, and Belgian chocolate, all cooked in a copper pot.

The filling is encased in an original black pastry, which is larger than a standard choux pastry/cream puff. This dessert offers a rich, bittersweet chocolate experience.

“Godzilla Eclair Dark Chocolat”

This product features a black pastry, larger than a standard eclair, filled with a chocolate cream made with whipped cream and a collaboration-specific black cocoa custard, and coated in chocolate. It is also topped with chunky chocolate chips, reminiscent of Godzilla’s scales.

The eclair provides a rich, smooth chocolate taste with a textural contrast from the chocolate chips.

To celebrate the 70th anniversary of both Monteur and Godzilla, a special video has been released, portraying Monteur’s product development process within a fictional drama set in the Godzilla universe.

The video is narrated by Ichiro Furutachi, a popular TV personality who also celebrates his 70th birthday this year. Furutachi expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, “Actually, my favorite food in the world is cream puffs.”

The two new Monteur vs. Godzilla sweets will be available for purchase at select convenience stores and supermarkets within their designated sales areas from March 18th to April 30th, 2025.
