The accusations against Oda center around a series of alleged incidents that occurred at a golf driving range in Fukuyama City, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Between 20th August and 12th September 2024, Oda is suspected of using his smartphone to take unauthorized photographs of a woman in her 50s.

The alleged method was particularly invasive: placing his smartphone under the woman’s skirt to capture images of her lower body while she was practicing her swing.

The victim was reportedly acquainted with Oda.

The woman, concerned by the possibility of having been secretly photographed, took the proactive step of consulting with the Hiroshima Prefectural Police.

Her report initiated the investigation that ultimately led to Oda’s arrest.

In Japan, as in many other countries, behavior such as this is considered a serious offense, and the legal repercussions can be severe.

Japan has been grappling with voyeuristic behavior for some time and it is not uncommon to see warning signs in public places advising against such behavior.

The investigation is ongoing but it is likely to be short given that the suspect has apparently admitted to the charges.
