Asakusa now has its first ever micro pig café

Micro pig café chain “mipig cafe” has opened it’s 17th café in Asakusa.

The “mipig” cafés have collectively received over 1.5 million visitors and the newest café in the chain, which allows diners to eat and drink while surrounded by miniature pigs, opened on March 19th, 2025.

Asakusa has been chosen as the location of the new “mipig cafe” because of the area’s status as a major tourist destination within Japan, attracting a substantial volume of international visitors daily.

This expansion follows the Harajuku and Harajuku Takeshita Street “mipig” cafés being ranked 1st and 2nd by foreign tourists in a recent “Visit Japan Lab” survey of attractions in Tokyo’s Harajuku area.

The company aims to replicate this success in Asakusa and establish a venue that appeals to both international tourists and local residents.

The new Asakusa micro pig café has a traditional Japanese theme

The Asakusa “mipig cafe” is designed around the concept of “Micropigs and Festivals” incorporating a Japanese-style interior design that reflects the traditional atmosphere of the Asakusa district.

Visitors can interact with micro pigs within this themed environment.

The café also offers complimentary consultation sessions for individuals considering adopting a micro pig as a pet.

Part of the “mipig” business model is the integration of micro pigs into domestic pet culture, akin to the established roles of dogs and cats.

The popularity of micro pigs as pets has increased in recent years, and the cafes provide a safe and controlled environment for people to interact with these animals.

Micro pigs born at the company’s domestic micro pig farm called “mipig farm”, undergo socialization training at “mipig” cafés to prepare them for domestic pet environments.

Following this training, the micro pigs are placed with adoptive families. Ongoing support is provided to adopters by “mipig” through a dedicated mobile application.

“mipig” raise micropigs and socialize them in their cafés before they join families as pets

The company estimates that over 1,800 micro pigs have been placed with families in Japan.
